IPL, Highlights: GL vs MI - Gujarat Seal Play-Off Berth With Six-Wicket Win Over Mumbai

After being put in to bat, Rohit Sharma gave Mumbai Indians a brisk start before Gujarat Lions bowlers struck in a span of an over to grab three quick scalps. Nitish Rana and Jos Buttler then came to the rescue and added 75 runs for the fourth wicket. Dwayne Bravo ended Buttler's innings of 33 but Rana, on the other hand, continued the good work and brought up his maiden IPL fifty, and propelled the tourists to a fighting total. In reply, a brilliant fifty from Suresh Raina backed up by useful contributions from Brendon McCullum and Dwayne Smith guided Gujarat Lions to a convincing win over Mumbai Indians, which also assured them of a place in the top two of 2016 Indian Premier League standings. Gujarat Lions are second in the IPL 2016 table and a win against Mumbai Indians will assure them of a spot in the playoffs.

With seven wins in 13 matches, Mumbai are currently placed fifth, tied on 14 points with Royal Challengers Bangalore (3rd) and Kolkata Knight Riders (4th) -- both having better net run-rate with one match to go.

A loss on Saturday will knock them out of the race for playoffs and Mumbai will hope to pull the rug from under the feet of the Lions this time after suffering a defeat during their home leg on April 16.

Gujarat, on the other hand, are at the second spot with 16 points from 13 matches and a victory will seal their playoff berth.
