Apple Inc CEO Tim Cook landed here on Thursday to get a taste of an Indian Premier League (IPL). He will watch a game between Shah Rukh Khan co-owned Kolkata Knight Riders and Gujarat Lions, on invitation from IPL chairman Rajeev Shukla.
"I had personally invited Tim Cook to watch an IPL match and I am glad that he has accepted my invitation," Shukla told PTI on Thursday.
He had also dropped in at a private party organised by Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan, who is also the owner of Kolkata Knight Riders. Tennis ace Sania Mirza was also present at that party.
The Apple CEO is on a four-day visit to India. He is expected during to meet a host of political leaders, industrialists and top celebrities.
The 55-year-old Tim Cook landed in Mumbai and paid a visit to the famous Siddhivinayak Temple.
"I am here to learn how business is done, learn what people are interested in, learn what is changing. I feel like I have learnt a lot, but I have got a lot to learn. I do want to go and watch a cricket match, that's high on my schedule," Cook told NDTV.
The top executive kicked off his India visit yesterday with a morning prayer at Siddhivinayak temple where he reportedly had a chance meeting with Mukesh Ambani's younger son, Anant.
Cook is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi later this week.
Steve Jobs, who was predecessor to Cook, had also visited India as a teenager, much before co-founding what is now a multi-billion dollar tech giant.
Jobs, then in his teens, came to India with a hippie mindset along with a friend, Dan Kottke, after dropping out of college.
Apple is now betting big on the Indian market, which has seen sales of its iconic iPhone growing 56 per cent in the first three months of 2016.
Among the fastest-growing handset markets globally, India has recently surpassed the US to become the world's second-largest smartphone market after China.
Cook has already met ICICI Bank MD and CEO Chanda Kochhar and executive directors during a closed-door meeting. He also met Vodafone India chief Sunil Sood.
