Another IPL match, another record shattered. Such is the life of Virat Kohli when he is in amazing form. After becoming the first player in the history of the Indian Premier League to smash three centuries in one edition, Kohli added yet another feather to his amazing record-breaking feat.
Kohli smashed his 24th fifty and on 57, he tapped Shakib Al Hasan to deep cover for a single and in the process, he created another record.
Kohli became the highest run-getter in one edition of the tournament. Before Kohli, Chris Gayle and Michael Hussey had scored 733 runs in a single edition. Gayle achieved the feat in the 2012 edition for Royal Challengers Bangalore while Hussey achieved it in the 2013 edition for Chennai Super Kings.
The right-hander became the first Indian to score 700 runs in an edition, with Robin Uthappa's 660 for Kolkata Knight Riders in the 2014 edition being the previous highest.
Kohli spoke about the importance of the win and credited AB de Villiers for helping him chase the target down. The pair had strung a record 229-run stand for the second wicket against Gujarat Lions and once again, they chased down a stiff total of 184.
In the post-match presentation, Kohli said, "I  knew I had to stay in. We spoke about a good partnership and I had one with AB - another 100-run stand - to take the team home. We haven't played well in Kolkata, so this win feels very sweet."
With this thumping nine-wicket win, Royal Challengers Bangalore have moved to fifth spot and they are in good form heading into their last two games.
