Virat Kohli became the first captain to score two centuries in a single edition of Indian Premier League as he scored 108* against Rising Pune Supergiants on Sunday. The Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper had earlier scored a ton against Gujarat Lions.
Chris Gyale was the first player to score two tons in one edition. He achieved the feat in 2011.
Courtesy Kohli's 58-ball 108*, which included seven sixes and eight fours, RCB won the match by seven wickets. He also holds the Orange Cap for being the highest run-getter (541) in IPL 2016 so far.
Kohli's stellar form has often led to comparison with Sachin Tendulkar. The Royal Challengers Bangalore captain broke yet another record of the Master Blaster on Sunday, in his bid to be a worthy successor of the legend.
As Kohli reached 67-run mark against RPS, he became the first captain in the tournament to score 500-plus runs in three separate editions. Sachin Tendulkar scored 500-plus runs in two editions for Mumbai Indians.
As Mumbai Indians' captain, Tendulkar who scored over 500 runs in two editions of the IPL -- 618 in 2010 and 553 in 2011. Kohli achieved this feat too -- 634 in 2013 and 505 in 2015.
Kohli's 634 is the highest run ever scored by a captain in IPL. He could set a new benchmark this season.
Two more IPL captains have scored over 500 runs in a season. They are Gautam Gambhir (Kolkata Knight Riders) and David Warner (Sunrisers Hyderabad).
Gambhir scored 590 runs in 17 matches in 2012, with a top score of 93. Warner scored 562 runs in 14 matches, with a highest of 91.
