'The Fizz' is creating plenty of buzz in the 2016 Indian Premier League. Mustafizur Rahman's exploits in the 2016 Indian Premier League for Sunrisers Hyderabad, have only increased the value of this young pacer from Bangladesh.
His value can only be judged in part by the impressive numbers which he has accumulated in the last year. In 12 months, the left-arm pacer has accumulated 22 wickets in 13 games at an average of 13.95 and economy rate of 5.98, the best among players who have played more than 10 games from Test playing nations.
In the 2016 IPL, he has been phenomenal. In eight games, he has 10 wickets at a brilliant average of 18.7 and a whopping economy rate of just 6.23. In the age of big bats, flat pitches and smaller grounds, the economy rate of just over six is phenomenal.
Mustafizur has been blessed by his skill of delivering the cutter. The ability to not dramatically change his bowling action or grip when delivering the variation makes him the stand-out player in an era of technology.
The Indian players, as well as players from Australia and New Zealand, will adhere to this skill. In his first series against India, Mustafizur picked up two five-wicket hauls to end up with 13 wickets in the three-match series. His cutters cut the mighty Indian batting to size.
In the World T20, Australia struggled to pick up Mustafizur's variations as they stuttered over the line in Bangalore while against New Zealand, he unleashed his whole repertoire of tricks to pick up 5/22, the first five-wicket haul by a Bangladesh bowler in World T20.
His magnificent run has made everyone stand up and take notice. Sunrisers Hyderabad skipper David Warner remarked after their win over Kings XI Punjab, "Mustafizur is a special talent. Bangladesh should be privileged to have him. His change of pace and execution is brilliant."
