Chennai Super Kings defeated the Delhi Daredevils by 93 runs and recorded their biggest victory in the Indian Premier League. Catch all the highlights here.
ÂÂ
Suresh Raina, Man-of-the-Match: We bowled really well, especially Ishwar Pandey, who executed the plans well. He won the game for us tonight. I looked to be positive till the last ball and later on Dhoni and Jadeja batted well. MS used his bowlers really well. I have been working on my fitness - it is so hot in Chennai and you to be fit in those conditions.
That's the end of this match. It's Kings XI Punjab vs Sunrisers Hyderabad tomorrow in Sharjah.
ÂÂ
MS Dhoni, Chennai Super Kings captain: I think it was a complete performance and no wonder the commentators keep saying catches win matches. There was a bit of help for the fast bowlers and they made use of the conditions. In a 20 over game, seven batsmen should be good enough. Our openers always look to be aggressive and the other batsmen down the order always look to score. Fielding is something we always emphasise on. This performance can be a benchmark for the coming games.
ÂÂ
Dinesh Karthik, Delhi Daredevils captain says Nathan Coulter-Nile will be out of action for some time: A lot of our plans revolve around Coulter-Nile. We had to bring in the part-timers and it made a difference. The ball was seaming and moving and it was difficult to chase 170 odd under the lights.
ÂÂ
23:07 IST: Chennai Super Kings defeat Delhi Daredevils by 93 runs, their biggest victory in the Indian Premier League. It was a listless performance by the Delhi Daredevils, who could manage only 84 after being set 178 to win tonight. None of their their big stars could fire and the likes of Duminy, Karthik, Taylor and Vijay left the fans disappointed. The Super Kings on the other hand, were a different side to that which took the field for the first game last week. After some explosive batting, CSK bowled and fielded brilliantly and did not let the Daredevils build any sort of momentum. Ishwar Pandey, Mohit Sharma and Ben Hilfenhaus made early inroads while R Ashwin finished with figures of 2/3 off 2 overs.
ÂÂ
23:04 IST: WICKET! Another one goes down as Delhi Daredevils stare at a huge defeat against the Chennai Super Kings - they are just caving in here. Second wicket for R Ashwin.
ÂÂ
23:00 IST: Delhi Daredevils have lost two wickets in quick succession as Ashwin and Jadeja strike. They are in complete disarray against the Super Kings.
ÂÂ
22:54 IST: Neesham takes two successive boundaries against Jadeja - the Daredevils need a few more of that.
ÂÂ
22:45 IST: Half way through their innings, the Delhi Daredevils are 53/5 and in all sorts of trouble.
ÂÂ
22:45 IST: Neesham walks in at a time when the Daredevils need to score at 12 an over for 10 overs for victory. He has Karthik for company. How's things going to unfold?
ÂÂ
22:41 IST: WICKET! Taylor perishes to Hilfenhaus as the Daredevils slump to 50/5 in the 10th over. The Chennai Super Kings are all over the Delhi Daredevils at the moment, says Ravi Shastri on air. How apt.
ÂÂ
22:34 IST: WICKET! Dwayne Smith gets JP Duminy lbw as the Delhi Daredevils crash to 42/4 off 8.1 overs. This is a disastrous start to a stiff chase and it's the strategic timeout
ÂÂ
22:28 IST: FOUR! Karthik smashes that away from Ishwar Pandey as Delhi Daredevils reach 37/3 after 7 overs.
ÂÂ
22:14 IST: WICKET! Faf you beauty. He takes another stunning catch, this time to see off Manoj Tiwary off the bowling off Ishwar Pandey. Delhi Daredevils are in real trouble at 17/3 in the 5th over.
ÂÂ
22:10 IST: WICKET! Another stunning catch. Vijay falls to Mohit Sharma as Faf du Plessis pulls off a superb catch. Delhi Daredevils reach 15/2 off 3.3 overs. This is a horrible start for the Daredevils.
ÂÂ
22:09 IST: FOUR! Nice looking shot by Vijay off Hilfenhaus. The Daredevils need a few more of those from their opener.
ÂÂ
22:04 IST: WICKET! Sensational catch from Raina as Agarwal falls to Pandey. The Super Kings have drawn first blood. Delhi Daredevils are 8/1 off 2.1 overs.
ÂÂ
22:03 IST: Brilliant over from Ben Hilfenhaus. Just two runs off it. Can the Super Kings keep the Daredevils in check here?
ÂÂ
22:00 IST: Delhi Daredevils are 6/0 after the first over. They will need to get off to a very quick start here to chase down 177.
ÂÂ
21:44 IST: Chennai Super Kings posted a daunting 177/7 off their 20 overs after electing to bat against the Delhi Daredevils. The Super Kings openers did not give them a flying start but tonight, Suresh Raina stepped in with his 19th IPL half-century, as he slammed 56 off 41 balls while MS Dhoni blitzed his way to 32 off 15 balls, setting the Daredevils a challenging target. DD will be tested, even with their in-form batsmen but their bowlers are to blame for the shift in momentum. CSK scored 58/4 off the last 4 overs, thanks to some poor bowling and unimaginative captaincy. Jaydev Unadkat was DD's best bowler tonight, claiming 3/32 off his four overs.
ÂÂ
21:34 IST: WICKET! It was short and wide down the leg-side but Jadeja went for it and got a feather touch on his gloves as Unadkat gets his third wicket.
21:33 IST: SIX! Jadeja joins the party now. He smashed that into the night sky.
ÂÂ
21:32 IST: WICKET! Unadkat was brave and bowled the slower one, inducing MS into another big hit and he holds out in the deep. CSK 156/5 off 18.4 overs.
ÂÂ
21:30 IST: FOUR! Dhoni almost takes Unadkat's head off as the ball scorched the grass on its way to the fence. This is aggression personified from the CSK captain.
ÂÂ
21:27 IST: Chennai Super Kings reach 150/4 with two overs to play. They are headed for a pretty strong total at this stage.
ÂÂ
21:26 ISTL SIX! Shami bowls short and Dhoni clobbers that on the off-side. Poor bowling but that was brutal from Dhoni.
ÂÂ
21:24 IST: WICKET! du Plessis attempts to get another six off the next ball but ends up holding to Vijay in the deep. A wicket for Shami as CSK reach 141/4 off 17.2 overs.
ÂÂ
21:23 IST: SIX! A monster shot that from Faf and Shami is at the receiving end this time. The Super Kings are on a mission.
ÂÂ
21:20 IST: SIX! Boom and that flies out of the park. Dhoni takes on DD's best bowler tonight, Unadkat. Wow that would hurt the morale of the young speester. FOUR! And he follows it up with a more cultured shot as CSK reach 135/3 off 17 overs.
ÂÂ
21:12 IST: WICKET! Raina falls to Neesham after smashing 56 off 41 balls, leaving du Plessis in the middle with MS Dhoni as the Super Kings reached 111/3 after 15 overs.
ÂÂ
21:08 IST: FOUR! A booming drive from du Plessis greets Neesham after the timeout. No prizes for guessing what the Super Kings discussed during the break. They need quick runs here.
ÂÂ
21:03 IST: Strategic timeout as CSK reach 103/2 off 14 overs . This game can go anywhere from here but you got yo back the Super Kings to get a big total with their powerful batting line-up.
ÂÂ
21:01 IST: Fifty for Suresh Raina as Chennai Super Kings reach 94/2, with seven overs remaining. They need both Raina and du Plessis to unleash the big ones now.
ÂÂ
20:56 IST: Neesham back in the attack for DD. Raina plays it down for a single to hand over strike to Faf du Plessis and he is still not off the mark after facing two balls. He can't afford to keep Raina off strike for too long.
ÂÂ
20: 53 IST: WICKET! Nadeem ends Smith's resistance just when Raina was looking to build some momentum against the Daredevils. CSK: 77/2 off 11 overs.
ÂÂ
20:49 IST: SIX! Raina takes Nadeem on and what a blow that was. Great placement and CSK are in business. With Raina in form, the Super Kings could be looking at a strong total. CSK:
ÂÂ
20:46 IST: FOUR! Raina placed that beautifully against Duminy as CSK reach 65/1 half way through their innings. They have wickets left in the bag and are certain to go for the big shots sometime now.
ÂÂ
20:40 IST: FOUR! Smith hammers that off Neesham and it brings up the fifty for CSK.
ÂÂ
20:34 IST: Duminy back in the over after bowling an economical first. Will he make an impact with the ball?
ÂÂ
20:30 IST: FOUR! Raina drives that one off Neesham and sets the ball rolling again for his side. The southpaw will be key for the Super Kings if they have to get a big total tonight.
ÂÂ
20:24 IST: Coulter-Nile is off the field and the extent of his injury is not known yet. But this is certainly a blow for the Daredevils, who will be one bowler short tonight. However, the team has just confirmed that he will be kept off the field for precautionary reasons.
ÂÂ
20:19 IST: Suresh Raina will have a lot of work to do with Smith at the other end. The two have plenty of experience and will look to give the Super Kings a strong platform for an assault later in the innings. CSK: 25/1 off 4 overs.
ÂÂ
20:14 IST: WICKET! McCullum was dropped by Duminy off Unadkat's bowling but he gave a simple chance to another South African, Wayne Parnell in the very next ball. CSK: 23/1 off 3.2 overs.
ÂÂ
20:12 IST: FOUR! McCullum dances down the pitch and lofts Nadeem on the off-side. What a shot from the Kiwi skipper. CSK move to 23/0 after three overs.
ÂÂ
20:10 IST: Nadeem in the attack. More spin from DD. Is this a ploy to take the pace off the ball for CSK's aggressive openers? Seems like it.
ÂÂ
20:07 IST: FOUR! Poor ball from Shami first up and Smith smacks it to the fence. And CSK are away. Another FOUR! from Smith and this is not very bright from Shami at all. CSK: 14/0 after 2 overs.
ÂÂ
20:04 IST: CSK's openers were off to a circumspect start against Duminy - they also missed a few scoring chances but these are still early days in the game. CSK: 4/0
ÂÂ
20:01 IST: McCullum and Smith, the dreaded CSK openers strut out in the middle as the Daredevils take their position in the field. This could be a cracking game - the Super Kings will be itching to get their first points on the board. JP Duminy with the ball for DD. And he will bowl to Smith.
ÂÂ
Here are the playing XIs:
ÂÂ
Chennai Super Kings: BB McCullum, DR Smith, SK Raina, F du Plessis, MS Dhoni (Captain & WK), M Manhas, RA Jadeja, R Ashwin, MM Sharma, BW Hilfenhaus, IC Pandey
Delhi Daredevils: MA Agarwal, M Vijay, KD Karthik (Captain & WK), JP Duminy, LRPL Taylor, MK Tiwary, JDS Neesham, S Nadeem, NM Coulter-Nile, Mohammed Shami, JD Unadkat
ÂÂ
CSK team changes: Bravo, Nehra and Negi are out. Hilfenhaus, Manhas and Ishwar Pandey come in. Big blow for CSK, according to what MS Dhoni said at the toss: Bravo will be out for 4 to 5 weeks and that means almost all of the IPL 2014. The West Indian all-rounder had landed badly on his shoulder in CSK's first game and had to walk off the field.
ÂÂ
Chennai Super Kings have won the toss and decided to bat against Delhi Daredevils in game eight of the IPL. No Dwayne Bravo for CSK and no Kevin Pietersen for the Daredevils yet. Chennai Super Kings have made three changes while the Daredevils are unchanged tonight.
This is a big, big game. Chennai Super Kings got off to a poor start and they will need to bounce back against a confident Delhi Daredevils, who crushed the Kolkata Knight Riders to announce their intentions this season. The toss is just a few minutes away.
ÂÂ
Delhi Daredevils have momentum on their side. Chennai Super Kings have past Indian Premier League laurels on theirs. The two teams promise a cracker of a contest when they battle each other in the eighth match of the Indian Premier League. (Scorecard | Commentary)
ÂÂ
Delhi defeated Kolkata Knight Riders - winners of the 2012 edition of the Indian Premier League. The four-wicket win for the side would have made players forget their first-match loss when the team went down to Bangalore. The added pain of not having skipper Kevin Pietersen - due to an injury - from the start would also be healing. A win against dominant Chennai would bolster morale further. (Player to watch out for: JP Duminy has been in excellent batting form)
ÂÂ
Delhi would know that time is right to make the most of Chennai's woes. After all, despite having Mahendra Singh Dhoni's guidance, the Super Kings lost to Kings XI Punjab by 6 wickets. Off field controversies in the run-up to the IPL have also taken a toll. When cornered though, this team has shown the ability to hit back hard. (Player to watch out for: R Ashwin can use conditions in Dubai to lethal effect)
ÂÂ
Did you know? The last time Delhi beat Chennai was in 2012! The team has since been beaten four times by the Super Kings. (Also read: CSK vs DD, preview)
