IPL 6: Kolkata Knight Riders missing quality, admits Gautam Gambhir

It was the eight defeat for Kolkata Knight Riders and it came at Wankhede, against a confident Mumbai Indians' team.

Mumbai:

A visibly disappointed Kolkata Knight Riders' skipper Gautam Gambhir rued the lack of quality cricket from his side in this edition of the Indian Premier League. This after losing to Mumbai Indians by 65 runs - a result which effectively takes the defending champions out of contention for the play-offs.

Chasing 170, Kolkata's batting came apart at the seams with Gambhir himself unable to score. "If you do not play  smart cricket, if you do not play quality cricket, this is what happens. I do not think it is a jinx (a dismal record in playing away matches). When I look around the dressing room, I see a lot of quality players. It is about putting the best XI on the field," he said after the match.

Asked what his plans were for the remaining matches in the tournament, Gambhir said it was playing well and finishing on a good note. "Even today, before the match, I said we should not look too far ahead. We have four games to go now and will look to win those."

Kolkata now have lost eight matches of their twelve so far in this edition, still lying a lowly seventh in the points table.
