IPL 2013 Probe: Supreme Court Gives Mudgal Panel Two Month Extension to Complete Investigations
Supreme Court has asked if an interim report can be filed by the committee so that BCCI's AGM can take place as per schedule. Next hearing in the case is scheduled for November 10.
Supreme Court on Monday, gave the IPL 2013 probe panel - headed by Justice Mukul Mudgal - a two-month extension to complete its investigations and submit a final report. The investigating committee had submitted an interim report in the apex court on Friday, asking for an extension.
While the committee's request has been accepted, the court has asked the panel if they can give an interim report on office bearers so that the Board of Control for Cricket in India's Annual General Meeting can take place as per schedule. The next hearing in the matter is scheduled for November 10.
The inquiry panel is investigating charges of corruption against 13 individuals that include BCCI's president-in-exile N. Srinivasan - who earlier pleaded the court to recall its order for him to stay away from Board activities - and his son-in-law Gurunath Meiyappan who was team principal of Chennai Super Kings till last year.
The BCCI elections are due in September and Srinivasan's year-long extension is coming to an end. According to the BCCI constitution, Srinivasan is eligible for another term as president but only if he is nominated by the zone whose turn it is to put up a candidate. This year it is East Zone's turn to nominate a president. Srinivasan can only be nominated if the Supreme Court allows him to do so.
