Gautam Gambhir was a happy skipper on Sunday after Kolkata Kolkata Knight Riders registered a comprehensive 48-run victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Eden Gardens.
Gambhir heaped praise on Eoin Morgan and Jacques Kallis for their exploits in the match that helped KKR get back to the winning ways.
"It was a very good wicket to bat on. Morgan and Kallis were fantastic. We were aiming at 160-odd but to get 180 was very good. Morgan has been an incredible batsman. We have to give him time in the middle. Hopefully he can continue like this through the tournament," Gambhir said.
Gambhir himself scored 53 off 45 balls, laced with 6 fours and a six to bag the Man of the Match award. He was well supported by Eoin Morgan (47 off 21) and Jacques Kallis (41 off 27) to help the home team post 180/4.
Defending the total, Sri Lankan spinner Sachitra Senanayake -making his IPL debut - bagged a wicket and conceded just 18 runs in the match. The skipper said Senanayake did what the team wanted out of him. "We needed someone to complement Sunil Narine. Senanayake did just that. We got the right pick," the KKR skipper said.
On the other hand, Sunrisers' captain Kumar Sangakkara said they are still in a good position as they have more wins than losses. "We are still in a good position but we have to improve," he said.
Sangakkara felt 180 was pretty tough to chase but the day belonged to Morgan and Kallis. "Morgan and Kallis played really well and we were outplayed. Around 160 would have been great. Cameron White, Parthiv Patel and Thisara Perera did decently well but we have to improve," Surisers skipper added.
