In the backdrop of the World Cup-winning Indian team's dismal outing thus far in England, the Cricket Board's all-powerful working committee will have a one-day sitting on August 15 at its headquarters.
The committee is expected to take up "routine" matters like the secretary's annual report and others prior to its AGM in September, according to BCCI sources.
The committee, headed by BCCI chief Shashank Manohar who is set to end his term of office at its AGM next month, last met on April 27 when it appointed Duncan Fletcher as the new Indian team coach for a two-year term and raised the cash incentive for the World Cup winning squad members from Rs one crore to Rs two crore.
The Indian team's performance has dipped alarmingly since then with the world's No. 1 Test team, after over a year at the top, in danger of being displaced from the top by rivals England who currently lead the four-match series 2-0.
The result of the must-win third Test, commencing at Edgbaston, Birmingham on August 10, would be known by the time the committee meets.
It would, thus, be of interest to the millions of the team's fans whether any discussion takes place about the team's display at the one-day sitting of the BCCI members.
A spate of injuries to top players, in the run-up and during the ongoing series, has severely dented the team's performance and it remains to be seen whether any views are expressed at the Won August 15C meet about this important aspect too.
The team has lost the services of Cup-winning members Yuvraj Singh, Harbhajan Singh and Zaheer Khan, all due to injuries. The first two picked up injuries at the Trent Bridge Test, which India lost by a huge 319-run margin to trail the hosts 0-2.
Zaheer bowled only 13 overs in the first Test at Lord's before limping off the field with a hamstring injury and has now been diagnosed with an ankle injury too which would need surgery, putting him out of action for about 14 to 16 weeks.
A major portion of the WC meeting is, however, expected to be taken up by administrative issues as "it's going to be a normal meeting before the AGM", the BCCI sources insisted.
Anyway there are, in general, very few former India cricketers who attend these BCCI meetings as representatives of its affiliates who are capable of talking on technical issues related to the team.
Ex-captain Dilip Vengsarkar, who used to represent the Mumbai Cricket Association in past WC meetings, is out of the picture after his defeat in the MCA elections.
It's now up to the likes of another former captain Anil Kumble or former India pacer Javagal Srinath, who can represent the Karnataka State Cricket Association as its president and secretary respectively, to raise important cricket related technical matters at the meeting.
Another former Test spinner Shivlal Yadav is also in the picture, as one of the vice presidents of the BCCI, and qualified to throw his inputs into the technical aspects of the game.
