Ajinkya Rahane Joins Virat Kohli, Rahul Dravid in Elite Club of Centurions
Ajinkya Rahane scored a century in each innings of the fourth Test against South Africa at the Feroz Shah Kotla and in the process, he shattered several records.

Ajinkya Rahane shattered his home jinx in spectacular fashion as he notched up a century in each innings on day four of the fourth Test against South Africa at the Feroz Shah Kotla. Following his century, Virat Kohli declared the Indian innings, thereby giving the visitors a target of 481. (LIVE SCORECARD | NEWS | VIDEOS)
Following up on his magnificent 127 in the first innings, which was his fifth century and first in India, Rahane smashed another century to stamp his class in testing conditions. He scored his sixth century off 206 balls, with eight boundaries and three sixes. In the process, he registered some records. (BLOG)
- Rahane became the first batsman to score a century in each innings at the Kotla. He also became only the fifth Indian to score two centuries in a Test, joining the likes of Vijay Hazare, Sunil Gavaskar, Rahul Dravid and Kohli.
- This was only the seventh instance in Tests in India where a batsman has scored a century in each innings.
- Before Kotla, batsmen had scored a century in each innings in only two other venues. One was Eden Gardens in Kolkata which has seen five instances of players achieving this feat while two were in Chennai.
- This was the first time after five years that a batsman had scored twin centuries in a Test match in India. Before this, Hashim Amla had achieved this feat in 2010 when he hit 114 and 123* at the Eden Gardens.
- Rahane's twin centuries was the third instance of a batsman notching up twin centuries in a Test match in India during the month of December. Everton Weekes of West Indies had achieved the feat in December 1948 while Gavaskar had achieved it in December 1978.
- Overall, in Tests, South Africa have been on the receiving end of twin centuries from batsmen a total of 10 times.
- Before Rahane, Everton Weekes, Gavaskar, Duleep Mendis, Gary Kirsten, Dravid, Andrew Strauss and Amla were the other players to score a century in each innings in a Test in India.
Before the Delhi Test, all of his centuries and half centuries were made outside India. His highest score in India was 15 and he had an average of just 7.83. In one match, he has turned his average around spectacularly.
