South Africa were struggling to get going in Kanpur. In stepped AB de Villiers and his unbeaten 21st century helped South Africa become the first team to go past 300 in Kanpur. Rohit Sharma led a strong response and his 149-run stand with Ajinkya Rahane kept India in the hunt. Some disciplined bowling kept India in check and Rohit's 150 helped India come close. However, Imran Tahir's two wickets changed the game and India lost the match by five runs to go 0-1 down in the five-match series. Relive all the moments here. 17:19 hrs IST: Here are some quotes from the post-match presentation:
MS Dhoni: "The outcome was not great. Plenty of things went wrong. We missed Ashwin's five overs. He is our top spinner. Everything was going to plan until his injury."
AB de Villiers is the Man of the Match for his unbeaten century off 73 balls. He said, "Imran Tahir's over changed the complexion of the game and he was backed up well"
17:00 hrs IST: Disaster for India as Rabada holds his nerve to deliver a magnificent final over. He gets rid of MS Dhoni for 31 and Stuart Binny for 2. He gives away just five runs in the final over. MS Dhoni mistimes the slog and Rabada collects it and the equation boiled down to seven off two balls. Rabada sealed the match when Binny mistimed the pull and was caught at square leg. He bowled a full, straight ball to finish it up and the batsman managed a single to seal victory by five runs to go 1-0 up in the series. Great fightback from South Africa.
16:53 hrs IST: Dhoni has moved to 21 off 24 balls but he has not hit a single boundary. He is really struggling to time the ball. However, he dismisses that notion as he paddles Steyn away for a boundary. 14 runs needed off eight balls.
16: 50 hrs IST: Rabada concedes just nine runs in the 48th over. India need 22 off 12 balls. Imran Tahir finishes with figures of 10-0-57-2, an important spell. Those two wickets at the end have really given South Africa the edge. It is now up to MS Dhoni. Can he finish it off in his own magical way? Dale Steyn to bowl the 49th over.

16:45 hrs IST: Tahir has changed the entire complexion of the match. He has gotten two massive wickets and South Africa are back in the hunt. Rohit Sharma c and b Tahir 150 (133). Suresh Raina c Duminy b Tahir 3 (3).
Rohit comes down the track and chips a flighted delivery back to the bowler. He gets a standing ovation from the Kanpur crowd and the South African players come to him and shakes his hand. A brilliant knock comes to an end. However, South Africa seize the initiative when Raina mistimes the lofted shot and holes out to long on. India are 273/5, needing another 31 runs off 19 balls. Anybody's game here.
16:38 hrs IST: This is fabulous batting from Rohit Sharma. He is toying with Steyn, Rabada and Tahir as he notches up his third score of 150 in ODIs. Magnificent. India are closing in on victory and this will be a special knock
16:21 hrs IST: Yikes! What a colossal mix-up but Rohit Sharma survives. Turning point of the game here. Dhoni taps it to point and they set off for a single. There is total confusion and both batsmen are stranded in the middle. The fielder misses with the throw at the striker's end and even De Kock misses with the back flick. South Africa had two chances to run him out and they miss. This could hurt them immensely.
16:05 hrs IST: Tragedy for India and the pressure is on them suddenly. Virat Kohli c Morne Morkel b Dale Steyn 11 (18).
Kohli flicks this delivery on the pads to short fine leg and the ball just carries to Morne who gets under it. India are 214/3, needing 90 runs more off 60 balls. Game on.
15:59 hrs IST: Almost a run-out. Kohli sends Rohit back and he just makes it. What is with Rohit and Kohli's running? Ever since the dismissal of Rahane, India have managed only 21 runs in six overs. The asking rate and gap between balls remaining and runs needed has widened.

15:43 hrs IST: Brilliant from Rohit Sharma as he brings up his eighth ODI hundred off just 98 balls. It is his first against South Africa as well. He gets it in style as he flicks Behardien over mid wicket and he raises his arms in triumph. This could be the hundred that clinches victory for India. India 201/2 in 36 overs, needing 103 more off 84 balls.
15:32 hrs IST: Tame way to fall after a good knock. Farhan Behardien breaks the 149-run stand by getting rid of Ajinkya Rahane for 60. Ajinkya Rahane c David Miller b Farhan Behardien 60 (81).
Behardien bowls a slow and short delivery outside off, Rahane makes room and looks to slap it through cover but mistimes it totally and gives a simple catch to Miller at extra cover. India 191/2 in 33.4 overs, needing another 113 runs more for a win.
15:24 hrs IST: India are in a thoroughly dominant position at 186/1 in 32 overs. They need 118 runs in 108 balls and have nine wickets in hand. South Africa need a miracle. With Rohit and Rahane is prime form, this is looking ominous for South Africa.
15:19 hrs IST: After going past his fifty, Rahane is growing in confidence as the partnership is approaching 150. Meanwhile, you can read about the changes in the India squad following R Ashwin's injury.
15:13 hrs IST: The game is slipping away from South Africa. Rahane scores his 11th ODI fifty off 67 balls. Rohit, on the other hand, is growing in confidence and he slams a boundary and a six to get into the 90s. India are 176/1 in 30 overs, needing 128 in 20 overs. They are coasting to the total.

15:00 hrs IST: The 100-run stand is up between Rohit and Rahane. It has come in good time and they are slowly getting into the zone where they can take the match away from South Africa. India 147/1 in 27 overs, needing 157 more to win.
14:58 hrs IST: Just in: Harbhajan Singh has been included in the ODI squad after R Ashwin suffered a left side strain. Ashwin sustained the injury while diving to stop a ball in the ongoing ODI. This could be bad news for India.
NEWS ALERT: R Ashwin has suffered a side strain injury. Harbhajan Singh has been added to India's squad for Paytm ODI series against SA.

14:52 hrs IST: Rahane finally breaks the shackles by pulling Behardien to the wide long on fence for a boundary. After 25 overs, India are 135/1, needing 169 runs off 150 balls. The asking rate is touching seven and India will be looking to move on.
14:47 hrs IST: Steyn is getting some reverse swing and he is not giving away anything in his second spell. The asking rate is mounting as South Africa aim to claw back by drying the runs.
14:41 hrs IST: Good comeback from Dale Steyn in his first over of his second spell as he gives away just one run. India still in the game though and while Rahane has slowed down, Rohit continues confidently.
14:35 hrs IST: Imran Tahir is not getting much turn. He is just pushing the ball through and keeping the runs down at the moment. However, both batsmen are playing him with ease and India are dominating proceedings at the moment.

14:24 hrs IST: Magnificent stuff from Rohit Sharma as he notches up his 27th ODI fifty and his second against South Africa. He gets it off 48 balls and gets it in style by gliding Morne Morkel over point. He follows it up with a flick that goes past mid on for another boundary. India 108/1, needing 196 runs more for victory.
14:16 hrs IST: Drinks in Kanpur and India are in a great position. Rohit is looking in fluent touch while Rahane is playing the anchor role well. South Africa have to get a wicket soon. Time for Imran Tahir probably?
© AFP
14:12 hrs IST: The fifty-run partnership is up between Rohit and Rahane. It has been a solid stand and they have made good progress. South Africa desperately need another wicket. India 94/1 in 16 overs, needing 210 runs more for victory.
14:01 hrs IST: JP Duminy is not getting that much spin out of the wicket as the Indian spinners. Rohit and Rahane are playing him with ease.
13:51 hrs IST: Rohit Sharma continues the great work by hitting two consecutive fours off Morne Morkel. He is currently striking at over 100 and India will want him to continue in the same vein. India 65/1 in the 11th over.
13:45 hrs IST: Ajinkya Rahane is at number three and he will want to prove himself. He has been in and out of the ODI side and he will be determined to give India the stability that they desire in the middle order.
13:37 hrs IST: WICKET! Morne Morkel strikes in his first over and Shikhar Dhawan, who was batting confidently, falls. Shikhar Dhawan LBW Morne Morkel 23 (28).
Morne comes round the wicket and slants a good length delivery in on the middle and leg stump line, Dhawan tries to work it to the leg side but gets hit on the pads, Morne appeals and umpire Kulkarni raises the finger, could have possibly gone over the stumps or missed leg stump.

13:30 hrs IST: Nine runs have come off Farhaan Behardien's first over. This pitch has eased out and it is becoming easier for the batsmen. Not good signs for South Africa.
13:20 hrs IST: Kagiso Rabada concedes 10 runs in his second over as both Rohit and Dhawan get going with a boundary. India need to get off to a good start in the powerplay.
13:13 hrs IST: Dhawan's ODI average against South Africa is over 66. His two major knocks against them have come in ICC tournaments. At this stage, India will be hoping that he contributes in Kanpur, where he scored 119 against West Indies in the last ODI played at this venue
13:05 hrs IST: Welcome back to the Indian innings. India will have to get off to a positive start but it will not be easy against this South Africa attack. Shikhar Dhawan shows his intention as he gets off the mark with a boundary. In his previous encounter against the Proteas at the MCG in the 2015 World Cup, he smashed 137 and this will be on the minds of the South Africans.

12:42 hrs IST: The great man himself remarked that this knock was not easy. He said, "I had to work hard on this wicket and it was important to settle in. I love coming to India and playing."
12:40 hrs IST: Take a deep breath and take this in your stride. When AB de Villiers had scored a fifty, he had consumed 54 balls. When the death overs came, such was his acceleration that he blasted 53 runs in 19 balls. Thanks to this knock, South Africa managed to score 109 runs in nine overs. Farhaan Behardien also chipped in with a vital 35 off just 19 deliveries and South Africa have become the first team to score 300 in Kanpur. His knock has included just five fours but it also included six sixes.

12:35 hrs IST: Mind-boggling stuff from AB de Villiers. He gets to his 21st ODI century, his fourth against India off just 73 balls. He gets there by smashing Umesh Yadav for a six over long on to bring up the landmark. AB, take a bow! He is a true legend.
12:26 hrs IST: Mind-boggling acceleration from De Villiers. When he reached his fifty, he had consumed 54 balls. In his next 17 balls, he has blasted 47 runs. Bhuvneshwar concedes 19 runs in his final over and South Africa have accelerated brilliantly. They are 282/5 in 49 overs. Behardien is giving him great support.
12:22 hrs IST: To back the previous point, here is the fact. Umesh Yadav bowled two dot balls which was good for India. However, he also conceded three boundaries in the over, two to Behardien and one to De Villiers. South Africa 263/5 in 48 overs. Can they get to 290?
12:19 hrs IST: The plan from India will be for both Bhuvneshwar and Umesh to finish off. Behardien is also a dangerous batsman but Bhuvneshwar is getting some reverse swing to him. In the recent past, Bhuvneshwar has emerged as the bowler who bowls the yorker in the death while Umesh has proven to be a bit erratic.
12:12 hrs IST: WICKET! Umesh Yadav strikes with a poor ball. JP Duminy is disappointed with the stroke he plays. Duminy c Dhoni b Yadav 15 (17).
Umesh slants a full and very wide delivery outside off and Duminy reaches out for it unnecessarily, the ball takes the outside edge and umpire Kulkarni gives him the matching orders. Duminy threw his head back in disappointment after the shot. First failure on this tour for him.
12:10 hrs IST: Oh boy! AB de Villiers is turning it on. Fun for fans but not so for the 11 Indian players on the field. He slogs a four through midwicket, lofts a six over long on and blasts an inside-out drive over extra cover. Stuart Binny concedes 21 runs in his eighth over. South Africa making a move on and they are 238/4 in 45 overs.
12:04 hrs IST: Ashwin is off the field again. MS Dhoni might not want to risk him any further ahead of this long series. Bhuvneshwar Kumar has conceded just four runs in the 44th over. How will India compensate for Ashwin's absence in the death?
11:57 hrs IST: R Ashwin is back into the attack. It will be interesting to see the impact he generates now. AB de Villiers is already set and India will be hoping to get rid of him quickly.
11:55 hrs IST: Wonderful stuff from AB de Villiers. He gets to his 48th ODI fifty and his sixth against India. Ominous signs for India and this is a period where South Africa have been very strong in the past. The strange thing is, he has hit only two sixes in this knock so far with no boundaries. However, he changes that by glancing a full ball on his pads to the fine leg fence.
11:50 hrs IST: WICKET! Amit Mishra gets another wicket. David Miller st MS Dhoni b Amit Mishra 13 (22).
Miller dances down the track and looks to slog over deep midwicket, but Mishra gets this ball to dip and spin back in, Miller misses and Dhoni effects an easy stumping. Ends a good spell from Mishra, who finishes with figures of 10-0-47-2.
11:42 hrs: De Villiers smashes his second six and he is on 41 from 46 balls. With only 11 overs to go, the platform is set for his onslaught. He almost perishes in the first ball of the 39th over as his pull shot falls just short of Amit Mishra at deep midwicket. South Africa 189/3 after 39 overs.

11:40 hrs IST: This is confounding and confusing. The umpires held up play for five minutes as they were deliberating whether Ashwin had an internal or external injury. According to the situation, Ashwin had spent 25 minutes off the field and they were debating whether he can bowl immediately. There is an estimation that he can bowl only at 11:55 IST, meaning he will probably not bowl his full quota of overs
11:34 hrs IST: South Africa are struggling to get going as the death overs approach. The Indian bowlers are not giving him anything to work with. The Proteas are 179/3 after 38 overs.
11:29 hrs IST: In the last eight overs, there has been only one boundary. The pressure is mounting on South Africa and the Indian bowlers are bowling with discipline. Suresh Raina is doing a decent job as they look to compensate for the overs not bowled by Ashwin.
11:27 hrs IST: Latest visuals show that R Ashwin probably has a left side strain. Not good news for India. However, the team will be hoping that it is not a big injury. It looks like he will not bowl anymore in this innings.
11:23 hrs IST: While the Indian cricket team is staging a fightback in Kanpur, over in the City of Joy, Indian football fans are in for a treat. Pele, one of the greatest football players of all time, has come to Kolkata after 38 years. You can read about this visit here. (WATCH)

11:13 hrs IST: WICKET! Umesh Yadav strikes first ball in his second spell by getting rid of the dangerous Faf du Plessis for 62.
What a start to his second spell. Umesh gets this delivery to nip back in at pace and du Plessis tries to run it down to third man, the ball hits the pad first and the umpire raises the finger. That delivery would have clipped off stump. South Africa 152/3 in 33.1 overs
11:04 hrs IST: Uh oh! R Ashwin is walking off the field. He seems to have injured himself when he dived to stop a drive from de Villiers. Worrying signs these for India and they will be hoping that he is alright. Not sure where he got injured.
11:01 hrs IST: Brilliant bowling from Mishra as he comprehensively beats De Villiers. He gives this legbreak a bit more rip and the ball just misses the off stump
10:57 hrs IST: So far, AB de Villiers is treating Ashwin with respect. He has not tried to take the attack him. Signs of an intriguing contest in store. South Africa 139/2 in 30 overs.
10:50 hrs IST: Magnificent way to get to a landmark! Raina bowls a short delivery and Du Plessis crunches the pull over wide long on to notch up his 17th ODI fifty and his third against India. South Africa need a lot more. However, in enters R Ashwin. It will be interesting to see how de Villiers copes up with him.
© BCCI
10:45 hrs IST: Edged but safe! Mishra gets this delivery to drift in and it spins away, du Plessis pokes at it and the edge flies in between Dhoni and Raina at slip and goes away to the third man fence. Mishra is unlucky as he finishes with nine runs in this over, with de Villiers paddling him to fine leg for a couple.
10:42 hrs IST: AB de Villiers has come out to the middle. Dhoni could be tempted to get R Ashwin back into the attack. One has to remember, Ashwin got rid of de Villiers in both the Twenty20 matches and this will be playing in the back of his mind. However, de Villiers is not flustered by the fact that he has fallen twice to Ashwin.
10:37 hrs IST: WICKET! Amit Mishra strikes and he is absolutely delighted. Hashim Amla b Amit Mishra 37 (59).
Amla was struggling for fluency in this game and he has been cleaned up by Mishra. The legspinner pushes through a quicker delivery and it skids on, Amla is rooted to the crease and he looks to whip it to the leg side, the ball hits the pad and crashes into middle and leg stump. South Africa 104/2 in the 24th over.
10:11 hrs IST: It is strange that R Ashwin and Amit Mishra are not bowling in tandem. Suresh Raina is into the attack now and he almost gets rid of Amla with a delivery that keeps low. Time for drinks and South Africa are 81/1 in the 16th over
© BCCI
10:02 hrs IST: Faf du Plessis is using his feet and sweep nicely to counter the conditions. On the other hand, Amla is struggling for fluency
09:55 hrs IST: Mishra is causing all sorts of problems here. He almost beats Amla in the flight as he comes down the track and chips it back to the bowler but it lands just short. In the fourth ball, he flights the ball generously to du Plessis who comes out of the crease and gets beaten. However, he gets his back foot back in the crease as Dhoni whips the bails off.
09:50 hrs IST: Some quick bowling changes done by Dhoni. Stuart Binny into the attack. He is not operating both the spinners in tandem. Strange!
09:46 hrs IST: Mishra into the attack now. A slip and a leg slip in place. He will love bowling on this sluggish deck. Ashwin and Mishra could be a difficult proposition for South Africa on this deck.
09:42 hrs IST: Close call for Faf du Plessis. He plays down the wrong line and gets hit on the pad and Ashwin appeals for an LBW. However, umpire Vineet Kulkarni does not give it out. Good decision as the ball was probably sliding down the leg side. Remember, umpire Kulkarni had given some wrong decision during the T20I in Dharamsala and he has redeemed himself slightly here.
© BCCI
09:40 hrs IST: WICKET! It was almost inevitable. R Ashwin, who is on a roll at the moment, strikes with an absolute ripper. Quinton de Kock c Raina b Ashwin 29 (33).
Brilliant stuff from Ashwin as he strikes in his first over and that too in his 100th ODI. He floats this delivery on middle and leg and it breaks away sharply, de Kock stabs at it and the edge is taken by Raina at slip. South Africa 45/1.
09:35 hrs IST: De Kock is growing in confidence and India are starting to get worried. He smashes two fours in Umesh Yadav's fourth over and South Africa have raced to 44/0 in eight overs, gradually raising the tempo.
09:29 hrs IST: The Indian bowlers are leaking too many boundaries in the powerplay. Amla and de Kock have gotten off to a positive start and India might turn to spin soon. South Africa 34/0 in seven overs.
09:22 hrs IST: De Kock breaks the shackles with two consecutive boundaries off Bhuvneshwar Kumar. South Africa looking to make a move on in the powerplay. South Africa 23/0 in five overs.
09:15 hrs IST: Close call for Quinton de Kock. Virat Kohli swoops in from mid-off and fires a rocket throw at the bowler's end. Such is the impact of the throw that he breaks one of the stumps. India think they have a wicket but de Kock's last moment sprint and reach just saved him. South Africa 15/0 in four overs.
09:13 hrs IST: Steady start for South Africa. By the way, Ravichandran Ashwin is playing his 100th ODI. India will be hoping that he can deliver something special.
Congratulations to R Ashwin, who is playing his 100th ODI for India. #IndvsSA pic.twitter.com/ATTk4GSC84
