London:

All hopes of Sachin Tendulkar getting a Test hundred at Lord's were dashed after he was dismissed for just 12 runs on the final day of the first Test against England.

England pacer James Anderson, who picked his wicket for the record sixth time, got rid of the maestro in the 67th over of India's batting. The ball nipped back from a length and past the inside edge struck onto the pads. Umpire Billy Bowden raised his crooked finger and a billion hearts broke.

Sachin had survived a chance in the same over after England skipper Andrew Strauss at slip dropped his catch.

He was given a standing ovation by the Lord's crowd as he made his way back to the pavilion. The Master Blaster was playing with a viral infection and
had scored 34 in the first innings.

Interestingly, Sachin has a chance of getting a hundred at Lord's when and if he plays the fourth ODI against England on September 11. Even if it would not be a Test hundred, a hundred at Lord's will still be a memorable feat.

Earlier in the day, when Sachin came out to practice at Lord's, he was mobbed by his fans and was escorted by security officials to the ground. (Pics: Sachin mobbed at Lord's)
