Karachi:
Pakistan skipper Younus Khan did not want a vice-captain for next month's Champions Trophy after the disappointing tour of Sri Lanka but his suggestion was rejected by the PCB, which appointed Shahid Afridi for the job.
According to a report in the 'Dawn' on Sunday, Butt also rejected Younus' suggestion of giving a key coaching position to former captain Rashid Latif.
The report said Younus had conveyed the suggestions in his one-to-one meeting with Butt after the team returned from a disastrous tour of Sri Lanka in which it lost both the Test and ODI series.
However, Butt appointed Afridi as vice-captain for the Champions Trophy replacing senior batsman Misbah-ul-Haq. Sources close to Younus said while he was keen to have Latif as assistant coach of the national team, the former captain had turned down the offer.
"The board did get in touch with Rashid but he didn't respond positively. Rashid privately also believes that he can't do much as assistant coach," one source said.
The board appointed Mohtashim Rasheed, a former fielding coach with the national team, in place of Aaqib Javed. Mohtashim is considered close to Younus but the skipper denied he had nothing to do with administrative decisions.
"I had nothing to do with Mohtashim's appointment, it was purely a board decision. I don't interfere in administrative affairs like appointment of support staff," Younus said.
