The Indian national team, led by skipper MS Dhoni, arrived in Colombo for the ICC World T20 beginning from Tuesday next. This after a heroic comeback from star batsman Yuvraj Singh after recovering from cancer in a match that his side lost by a run to New Zealand.
Having won the tournament in the inaugural edition in 2007, India's campaign in the previous two editions could only go as far as the Super 8s. Chief selector Kris Srikkanth has already said that the team has a fair chance of taking the title again. "This team has the potential to win the T20 World Cup. I am pretty confident."(Read: India will win T20 World Cup, says Srikkanth)
India's campaign, as in the previous editions, will be without the likes of Sachin Tendulkar and the retired Sourav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid and VVS Laxman. The veterans had even earlier said that youngsters should steer India in the shortest format of the game. MS Dhoni, in a press conference shortly after arrival said while part-timers will play a key role, to adapt to T20 will be crucial. (Read: We have to adapt quickly, says MS Dhoni)
MS Dhoni this year, has the services of in-form Virat Kohli and R Ashwin. Spin is likely to play a dominant role and Piyush Chawla and Harbhajan Singh can also be brought into action.
With the bat, the likes of Gautam Gambhir, Virender Sehwag and Suresh Raina can form a lethal trio and can support Kohli. The return of Yuvraj too, lends further and vital support to the batting might of the team.
