World T20 2012 has now seen two matches being decided after a Super Over was played out. Here is a refresher then on what exactly is Super Over all about, apart from the thrill and nail-wrenching exhilaration.
* The Super Over will take place when both contesting teams finish on the same score in a T20 match. So when a team scores 180 in 20 overs batting first and the team chasing also manages 180, an additional over per side is played for irrespective of the wickets lost by both sides during the normal course of the match.
* The team that managed the maximum number of runs in an over, wins.
* Three batsmen and a bowler are nominated by each side. The names are given in writing to the referee. While the bowler will bowl all the six deliveries, two wickets during the course of those six deliveries brings the 'innings' to an end on the score on the board.
* The Super Over is also called OOPSE - One Over Per Side Eliminator. It is, under normal circumstances, commence 10 minutes after the conclusion of a match and the time is determined by the match referee.
* The umpires stand at the same end as they were at during the final over of the regulation match. They choose the end of the pitch and bowlers from both sides will have to bowl from there.
* The field restrictions are the same as the ones that exist during the final over of the regulation match.
* The team batting second in the tied match will bat first in the Super Over.
* If both teams score the same number of runs in the Super Over as well, the winner is the team with the maximum number of boundary sixes during the course of their respective innings in the regulation match.
* Failing the above, the number of boundaries hit by each side during the regulation match decides the winner. In the unlikely and unprecedented scenario that both teams continue to be at level peggings, a count back is done of the Super Over. For example if both Team A and Team B hit four runs of the last delivery of the Super Over but Team B managed a single against Team A's two runs off the fifth delivery, Team A is declared the winner.
