Cricket legend Glenn McGrath is the newest addition to Madame Tussauds wax museum in Sydney. The statue features alongside fellow cricketers Shane Warne, Donald Bradman and Sachin Tendulkar in the sports category.
For the first time, Madame Tussauds Sydney had held a nationwide poll and McGrath was elected the newest Australian great to be immortalized in wax. Senior sculptor David Gardiner led the team that reproduced the cricketer from 300 measurements, consisting of 13 pieces. It took approximately three to four months to complete.
"We took some motion capture videos of McGrath doing his bowling action, which was really interesting for us to sculpt," Gardiner said. McGrath is dressed in the outfit that he wore in the 2006-2007 Ashes series.
"It's just so life-like, they even put every strand of hair individually, which took around six weeks," McGrath said.
"To be voted and seeing the finished product makes it that little bit more special. I think it means that little bit more to me because people wanted me in here," the legendary fast bowler said.
