Chennai:

Only clinching the seven-match One Day International series against Australia was not enough and Mahendra Singh Dhoni's men have to perform more consistently to achieve the numero uno status, feels World Cup winning captain Kapil Dev.

Kapil, who led the country to glory in 1983 World Cup in England, however, was not much worried about India's listless performance in the Champions Trophy in South Africa.

"I know they haven't played well during the last few months. But if they want to become number one in the world, the team have to win a lot of matches," Kapil said on the sideline of a function in the city.

"I hope India also win the one-day series against the Australians," he added.

Kapil, who considers Test as "mother of cricket", was not ready to buy the notion that advent of the shorter versions of the game have made the five-dayers' future bleak.

Earlier, talking to students of a city school students, Kapil said: "Everyone must have a dream in their life. It is for you to decide, be it in sports or study. You have to be passionate in doing things and will definitely succeed in your endeavour," he said.

Asked by the students about role model of the former pacer, Kapil said, "In the beginning my father was my role model. Later it was Gundappa Vishwanath, Nobel Laureate Mother Theresa, South African Leader Nelson Mandela. So, my heroes kept on changing."
