Following an attack by Bangladeshi fans on Sunday, Sudhir Gautam, the most noticeable and colourful Indian supporter in Dhaka, will be provided with extra security ahead of the third and final ODI on Wednesday. Sudhir was heckled by local fans after India lost the second ODI by six wickets to hand Bangladesh a historic series win.
Sudhir, who claimed that he was "pelted by stones" and his "auto-rickshaw was attacked", said he will be guarded by four security officials.
"I told them I didn't want to file any complaint. It's over. But they have posted guards outside. Two guards will accompany me to India's practice session and bring me back. And on the day of the match, there will be four guards with me," Sudhir told Wisden India.
However, a Bangladesh Cricket Board official said no police complaint was filed by the Indian fan. "No one has approached us, so we are not yet clear on the details of what happened. If it has indeed happened the way he (Sudhir) described it, it is very regrettable and the act of a small minority of fans. I want to assure Sudhir that if he has any worries, he is free to approach any security person employed with BCB and we will extend all help and cooperation," BCB spokesperson said.
This is the latest incident in an already spiced up series. India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni was slapped with 75 per cent fine for his on-field collision with debutant Mustafizur Rahman.
Bangladesh have provided the MS Dhoni and team with maximum security and even banned terror outfits with anti-Indian sentiments.
