# Hamish Rutherford's 171 is the second highest by a New Zealand player on Test debut, next only to Matthew Sinclair's 214 against the West Indies at Wellington in December 1999.
# Overall, nine hundreds have been recorded for New Zealand on Test debut. Jackie Mills, Mark Greatbatch and Rutherford are the three batsmen to have accomplished the feat against England.
# Rutherford's outstanding knock is the second highest by any player on Test debut against England, next only to George Headley's 176 for the West Indies at Bridgetown in January 1930.
# Rutherford has established a record as an opener on debut against England, surpassing Charles Bannerman's 165 not out for Australia in the first ever Test in cricket history at Melbourne in March 1877.
