Sachin Tendulkar, who retired from cricket after playing his 200th and final Test on Saturday, speaks exclusive to NDTV about life after cricket. Catch all the highlights from the interview.
In the lead up to my retirement, people were so loving. A big thank you to all the people and the Almighty.
Â
I am actually really shy. A sportsman will always be a sportsman on heart. On that list (which he used during farewell speech at Wankhede) I had names which I did not want to miss. Missed many names there, I spoke from the heart. I had carried a bottle of water and took a sip when it was difficult to speak.
Â
It was a fairy-tale farewell. When the 9th wicket fell the whole team was in a huddle and Dhoni told me Paa-ji please go, we're planning something for you.
Â
Will miss being with the team, travelling with the team. I took the blessing namaskar-keyla - the wicket and thanked cricket for everything.
Â
I will end up playing cricket, hard for me not to pick up a bat. It will not give me sleepless nights anymore. Playing for India was a great responsibility.
Â
Injuries were a challenging time, I thought my career was over, when I was operated for tennis elbow. My best moment was April 2, 2011 when we won the World Cup.
Â
I fell sad for my children Arjun and Sara because I have spent so much time away from them. My children are my priority now.
Â
The last seven days have been unreal, you can't plan a script like this.
Â
I am planning on an autobiography, people should know something about me.
Â
I am overwhelmed by the reaction, it will always stay with me.
