Australian captain Ricky Ponting refused to call it the end of an era after the three-time consecutive champions dominance in the World Cup finally ended at the hands of India on Thursday.
"It's a bit premature to say that it is the end of an era for Australian cricket. We had a pretty good match of cricket today. We were a very competitive side tonight. We just lost to a better Indian team. I am disappointed that we could not defend our title," Ponting said in his post-match conference.
"I am devastated. We had high expectations. We are a well organised group of cricketers who had a good one-day series before the World Cup against England. We found difficult to get the momentum in the tournament. Some critical moments cost us the game," he added.
