Razzaq asks selectors to give senior players proper run

Karachi:

Pakistan all-rounder Abdul Razzaq on Thursday asked the national selectors to give the senior players in the national side a proper run to end their careers on a respectable note.

Razzaq, who will be 30 in December, was today recalled in Pakistan's Twenty20 and one-day squads for the series against New Zealand in Abu Dhabi and Dubai after he was dropped for the Champions Trophy in South Africa.

"I was sent to the Twenty20 World Cup in England and did fairly well. Even in Sri Lanka, my performance was all right in the ODIs and Twenty20 match but then they dropped me for the Champions Trophy which came as a surprise," Razzaq said.

"I think it is unsettling for a player when he is not sure about his place in the team," Razzaq, who has played 46 Tests, 234 ODIs and seven Twenty20 matches, stated.

The experienced all-rounder was recalled to the national team during the Twenty20 World Cup after quitting the 'rebel' Indian Cricket League.

"I just feel that given our experience the selectors need to give us a proper run in the national team. Too much shuffling in the team is disturbing for the players and does not help their performance at all," he noted.

"I want to do a lot for the national team in my remaining career. I want to go out on a high note but for this the selectors need to show confidence in me and back me properly," he said.
