English county Somerset have confirmed leg-spinner Piyush Chawla as their overseas player for the latter part of the 2013-14 season. His arrival in England meanwhile hinges on when he will get the visa. In 2009, Chawla played for Sussex in a brief stint.

The left-handed bat and right-arm leggie has played 84 first class games in which he has scored 3365 runs at an average of 31.15, which includes three 100s and 25 half centuries, and taken 313 wickets at a cost of 30.65 runs each.

He has played in 91 List A (Domestic one-day) games in which he has made 1038 runs at 22.56 and taken 130 wickets at 28.34.

During his time at Sussex, as cover for Yasir Arafat, he scored 206 runs at 29.42 and took 36 wickets at 27.25 to top the county's bowling averages in six championship matches. He then enjoyed match figures of 11 for 170 against his current club Somerset at Hove.

The all-rounder after the confirmation said: "I am delighted to get the chance to play county cricket for Somerset. I have heard a lot about Somerset and I look forward to taking as many wickets as I can for the County during my stay with them."

Director of Cricket at Somerset Dave Nosworthy said: "We are delighted to have signed Piyush Chawla as a replacement for Abdur Rehman whom as we know has been called up to represent Pakistan in Zimbabwe. It has not been easy to find a replacement at such short notice due to so many players being committed elsewhere in the world, however we have been extremely fortunate to pick up a quality player like 'PC' and are thrilled. I have personally worked previously with 'PC' and he has a great work ethic, real skill, and I know he will add real value to our team and the last five Championship matches which we all know are crucial for us."

Chawla, is expected to make his debut in the Warwickshire match starting on 20th August, Visa permitting, and will remain with the County until the end of the season.
