PCB receives Haider's response, forms committee

Islamabad:

Zulqarnain Haider's written submission has been received by the Pakistan Cricket Board in regard to questions about why he fled from the team last November during a series against South Africa.

The PCB said on Tuesday it formed a three-man committee led by director domestic cricket Sultan Rana to look into Haider's reply.

The committee will start its probe when Pakistan returns from Ireland, where it will play two one-day internationals on May 28 and May 30.

Haider disappeared before the fifth and deciding one-day international in the United Arab Emirates, claiming threats from match-fixers, and sought asylum in London.

The 25-year-old wicketkeeper eventually rescinded his asylum application and returned to Pakistan in April, then announced this month he was available again for the national team.

When the PCB investigated the incident last year, it was told by some of the national team's support staff that Haider was gullible and had a complex personality. It wrote to Haider in December for an explanation, and that was finally received.
