Non-performers won't be tolerated: Pak chief selector

Karachi:

Describing Pakistan's ODI series loss to Australia as a huge disappointment, chief selector Abdul Qadir has warned that non-performers in the team would no longer be tolerated.

"I just want to say that those players who don't perform up to the expectations of the nation will not be tolerated for long in the team," the former leg-spinner told reporters on returning from Dubai.

"...there was at least one match which we should have won and with it the series. But our players batted very irresponsibly and threw away their wickets. Their performances were unacceptable and disappointing," he added.

Qadir said Pakistani players could learn a thing or two about batting under pressure from Australian Michael Clarke. "Clarke batted very sensibly even in conditions that didn't favour the Australians. He showed with how much responsibility one needs to bat in such conditions and pitches," he said.

Qadir, however, showered praise on Shoaib Akhtar and said he was impressed with the mercurial pacer's effort.

"I think he was very impressive in very hot and humid conditions in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. He didn't miss any match nor did he go off the field. He tried hard and bowled well.

In England the conditions will be different and more suitable for him," Qadir noted.
