Do join us for all the action which begins on Friday, 22nd July, 2016 at 1530 IST (1000 GMT). Until then, Adios! Take Care!
YASIR SHAH has been named the MAN OF THE MATCH for his excellent bowling figures of 60-15-141-10. He becomes the first Asian bowler to take 10 wickets in a match at Lord's. Terrific stuff. He says he is thankful for the opportunity he got to play here as the pitch helped him to get some assistance. He states that today he was more focused to bat better. Credits his support staff as they were encouraging him to bowl in certain areas. Feels honoured to be sharing the experience of Intikab Alam and Mushtaq Ahmed and keeps using their advice on the field, like from which end to bowl and all that.
Misbah-ul-Haq, Pakistan captain says that it is a great feeling to win here. Credits the players for showing great calibre. Opines that all were mentally strong and convinced to win, once they had a target of close to 300 to defend. He says that it was a great challenge to play and win against a great side. On Amir, he states that he is a great bowler and it is a great thing that he has got a second chance to play. On his century, admits that the runs are crucial so that the bowlers get a chance to get the opposition all out. On the celebration at the end of the match, he says he remembers the time the Pakistan unit spent time with the army and dedicates the win to the late Abdul Sattar Edhi. Praises the local crowd as well as they really supported Amir and enjoyed good cricket.
Alastair Cook, England captain says that poor batting in the first innings was the main cause in their defeat. He mentions that, their second day was better as compared to the first day. He admits that Woakes was great as he picked up 11 wickets and did not deserve to be on the losing side. On their second innings, agrees that there were a few wrong shots which cost them the match as they couldn't build partnerships. On their upcoming matches, states that they will come back strongly.
Both teams bowled almost similarly. For England, Chris Woakes took 11 wickets with support from Broad while for Pakistan, Yasir Shah took 10 with good help from Rahat on the final morning.
England bowled better in the second innings, but the visitors managed to get past 200 and set up a competitive target of 283 for the hosts. It would have been the second highest successful run chase at this venue had England done it, but it did not happen.
The game will be remembered for Misbah-ul-Haq's 114, which took Pakistan to 339 in the first innings. He received good support from Asad Shafiq who made 73 but the visitors will believe they could have gone past 350. England were 118/1 in reply, but then lost their way once Yasir Shah came on. They ended up making 272, conceding a 67-run lead, which if you look, made all the difference. Pakistan won by 75 runs.
Excellent bowling by Pakistan. Yasir Shah has single-handedly stood out, taking 6 wickets in the first innings and 4 today. But do not forget the contribution of Rahat Ali this morning, as he razed down England's top order. Mohammad Amir was not quite his own self in this game. But he will believe that he can come back to his best.
With 6 wickets down and 144 runs needed, Pakistan were well on top of England. However, Bairstow found an able partner in Woakes and the duo added 56 for the 7th wicket. Plenty of edges were missed or did not carry. Pakistan were frustrated but they kept hanging in there and eventually Yasir broke through Bairstow's defenses. After that, it was just a matter of formality as Amir wrapped things up.
England came out all guns blazing and flashing hard. As a result, they kept on losing wickets. Perhaps they were trying to be positive, as one could get bogged down if the runs don't come. They slipped to 47/3 and then they went to Plan B - defending. The middle order trio of Ballance, Bairstow and Vince tried to stem the collapse but they could not delay the inevitable.
