The Delhi and District Cricket Association can breathe a sigh of relief for now as the High Court allowed it to host the fourth Test between India and South Africa at the Feroz Shah Kotla from December 3. A final approval, however, has to come from the BCCI, which had set a November 17 deadline for the DDCA to indicate its state of readiness.
The court on Wednesday, further directed the Municipal Corporation of Delhi to issue provisional occupancy certificate to the DDCA and appointed Justice Mukul Mudgal to oversee the Test match. (Time Running Out for Delhi Cricket Officials, Kotla Test Still Uncertain)
The court in its order said that "it did not want to penalise the fans or the players," but indicated that Delhi cricket was not in a good state. "Won't give permission like this in future," the court added. (Arvind Kejriwal Government to Probe Corruption in DDCA) ÂÂ
DDCA, on Tuesday, had approached High Court after the Commissioner of Excise and Entertainment tax had refused to pass an order after DDCA appealed to keep the entertainment tax in abeyance till the match is over.
In October this year, the Delhi government had directed the DDCA to pay Rs 24.45 crores in entertainment taxes. The order was made under the provisions of the Delhi Entertainments and Betting Tax Act of 1996.
