On the final day of a rain-marred Test in Fatullah, Indian spin duo of Ravichandran Ashwin and Harbhajan Singh made the hosts sweat as they spun a web around the batsmen to give Virat Kohli & Co. a faint hope of a surprise win. (Fatullah Test ends in draw)
Ashwin finished with splendid figures of 5/87 while Harbhajan returned with 3/64. Though their efforts did not result in a win, skipper Virat Kohli had words of praise for the duo in the post-match presentation.
"Ashwin and Harbhajan are quality spinners, so watching them both bowl together is very pleasing for a captain. They put batsmen under pressure throughout," Kohli said in the post-match presentation.
Resuming on 111/3 on Day 5, Bangladesh got off to a stuttering start on Sunday as Ashwin and Harbhajan operated skillfully in tandem. While Ashwin flummoxed Shakib to get him out stumped, Harbhajan struck gold when he sent the in-form Imrul Keyes packing, thanks to more neat glovework from Wriddhiman Saha. With half their side back in the hut, Bangladesh were in a spot of bother.
The home team's quest to avoid follow-on was dented as Ashwin and Harbhajan generated good turn and bounce to choke up the runs and eventually bowl them out for 256, 206 runs short of India's first innings total. India came out in the hope to bowl out Bangladesh again but there was too little time to do so. In the end, the two teams agreed on a draw with Bangladesh on 23/0.
