Injured Stuart Broad to Miss ODI Series Against Sri Lanka
A knee problem will keep Stuart Broad out of action against Sri Lanka although he will continue to train in the nets and his eyeing a return to first-class cricket with Nottinghamshire later this month.
Stuart Broad said on Tuesday that he would miss England's forthcoming one-day international series with a knee problem but that he hoped to return in time for the subsequent Test campaign.
A niggling knee injury has delayed the seam-bowling all-rounder's start to the season, although Broad is eyeing a return to first-class cricket with Nottinghamshire in their four-day County Championship match with Durham starting on May 25.
He then hopes to come through a fixture with Sussex before, if selected, being fit in time for the first of a two-Test series against Sri Lanka, which gets underway at Lord's on June 12.
"I'm running this week and I'm bowling next week," said Broad, speaking at the launch of Royal London insurance's one-day cricket sponsorship at London's Royal Opera House.
"It's important you don't want to just bowl this week and play next week," added the 27-year-old son of former England opener turned match referee Chris Broad.
"I've had a month without bowling the ball now. You've got to build up gradually to make sure I'm 100 percent ready.
"We've got seven back-to-back Test matches (two against Sri Lanka followed by five at home to India) and that's my aim; I'm not going to make the one-day series.
"Hopefully I'll play the seven back-to-back Test matches and then the one-day series against India.
"I'm due to play the Championship game for Notts on May 25 against Durham, hopefully to prove I'm ready to go for the Test match in June."
