N Srinivasan arrives in Kolkata, will attend BCCI's working committee meeting

N Srinivasan, the president-in-exile of the Board of Control for Cricket in India, has arrived in Kolkata for the Working Committee meeting. He will be present here as president of Tamil Nadu Cricket Association and will need interim chief Jagmohan Dalmiya to propose his name in order for him to chair the meeting.

The Supreme Court earlier this week had refused to grant him relief but a defiant Srinivasan is expected to attempt a comeback as BCCI President after being forced to step aside. While the apex court had set a September 11 date for hearing BCCI's appeal justifying the IPL spot-fixing probe panel, it was seen as a major blow to Srinivasan whose son-in-law Gurunath Meiyappan was cleared of spot-fixing charges by the internal probe earlier. "It's a big setback for Srinivasan as the Supreme Court has issued notice in the name of Srinivasan and others," a Board official had previously said. Now, 24 members of the Working Committee will be attending Sunday's meeting - Arun Jaitley, considered the legal mind of the Board though will be conspicuously absent - and several are expected to oppose any move of a comeback from Srinivasan to regain control as chief of the Board. He had earlier stepped aside for the duration of the probe but even after it's end, he couldn't ascend to his previously held post due to a Bombay High Court order deeming the three-member panel as 'unconstitutional' and 'illegal.'

Srinivasan however, could have returned to the helm in the last working committee itself on August 2. But the meeting was cancelled due to a technical anomaly -- the word emergent was not mentioned in the circular sent to its members -- as Dalmiya continued to remain in-charge for a second time.
