Mumbai:
"Mr Modi is abroad and he would be represented by his duly authorised representative to plead to the requisition and reconstitution of the Disciplinary Committee," Modi's attorney and representative Mehmood Abdi said.
However, BCCI Chief Administrative Officer Ratnakar Shetty said that the suspended IPL Chairman should present himself in front of the panel.
"He (Modi) has to appear personally before the Disciplinary Committee," Shetty said after Modi's petition demanding reconstitution of the panel was rejected by the Bombay High Court on Thursday.
Modi is facing a barrage of charges, including financial irregularities and bid-rigging, relating to the conduct of the IPL.
The matter has been referred to a three-member disciplinary panel comprising interim IPL Chairman Chirayu Amin, Arun Jaitley and Jyotiraditya Scindia.
Undeterred by the rejection of his client's petition by the High Court, Abdi said the ball was in the Board's court to reconstitute the panel.
"Now the Disciplinary Committee has to consider our demand for recusal and reconstitution of the panel consisting of independent and fairly-disposed persons very seriously as it has got the force of a High Court order which has considered the demand for recusal and reconstitution of the committee and has now put the ball in BCCI's court," he said.
A tug-of-war seems to be on the cards between the BCCI and suspended Indian Premier League Chairman Lalit Modi on whether the latter should personally be present at Friday's Disciplinary Committee meeting of the Board hearing charges against him."Mr Modi is abroad and he would be represented by his duly authorised representative to plead to the requisition and reconstitution of the Disciplinary Committee," Modi's attorney and representative Mehmood Abdi said.
