Right then. That's it from the coverage of this game. England have taken a 1-0 lead in this 7-match T20I series. Pakistan will be eager to make a solid comeback and not let the visitors extend their lead. The second match will be played on 22 September 2022. The first ball will be at 8 pm IST (2.30 pm GMT). Our build-up though begins much earlier. Till then, take care and goodbye!
The stand-in skipper of England, Moeen Ali says that he thought they were outstanding throughout. Praises the bowlers to get things back under control at the death. Adds that they really set the tone for the batters. Mentions Wood was outstanding, he stuck his chest out and performed really well. He thinks that they were really smart in chasing down the target. It is a good comeback for Hales and Brook is the shining star in the making.
Babar Azam, the captain of Pakistan is in for a chat. He says that he and Rizwan stuck to the plan and built a solid foundation up top. Although gives credit to Adil Rashid for his outstanding spell. Mentions the batters though need to step-up and hopefully, they can improve in the next match. Adds that they are trying different combinations before the World Cup, and are also looking to give some crucial game time to certain players.
Luke Wood wins the Man of the Match award for his exceptional spell of 4-0-24-3. on his debut. He says it is a memorable debut and he enjoyed it a lot. Mentions the conditions were a lot different from England but they managed to pull it back in the end. Adds that they kept taking wickets which was pretty. Ends by saying that the batters did well to cut down the chase.
Stay tuned for the presentation...
Earlier in the day, after being inserted, Pakistan got off to the perfect start courtesy their openers. They though lost their way after that and ended up with something below 160 which was chased easily with four balls to spare. It were the spinners for England who applied the breaks really well in the first innings.
Pakistan were just not up for it! There were far too many poor deliveries and the fielding was extremely poor as well. Shan Masood’s drop probably cost them the game. Their bowlers struggled to take wickets. Only Usman Qadir looked dangerous but the rest could not support him well. They were just outplayed by England.
An excellent chase in the end by England! Very calculated. They key for them was, small partnerships. They had small decent partnerships through the innings. Hales was the mainstay, he batted brilliantly and notched up a fine half-ton. He fell soon after that but Brook showed great maturity to help his side take a 1-0 lead in the series.
