20:10 hrs IST: That's it for today. Do join us on Thursday for the live coverage of the second ODI. Until then, it's goodbye. Cheers!Â
Debutant Hardik Pandya is the Man of the Match for his three wickets.Â
MS Dhoni (India skipper): "Fantastic effort from the fast bowlers. We didn't think the pitch will help them this much, they hit the good lengths, especially Hardik, they bowled well and got regular wickets. Coming to the batting, Virat (Kohli) guided us well after the openers got us off to a fast start. Hardik has an awkward action, we have bowlers who bowl quick, hitting regularly in the 130 and 140 mark. Hardik's performance is important for us, if he continiues to do well, then it will be good for us - going into the future."
Kane Williamson (NZ skipper): "I think we had to weather the storm a little bit, they bowled well, there was some sideways movement, they exploited the conditions well, there were some soft dismissals as well. We scrapped well towards the end, we needed to take some early wickets, but they are a good chasing side and they showed it today."
19:50 hrs IST: SIX! And that's it. India beat New Zealand by six wickets to take 1-0 lead in five-match series. Kohli remains unbeaten on 85.Â

Â
12:35 hrs IST: A warm welcome to our live coverage of the first of the five ODIs between India-New Zealand.Â
New Zealand were clearly exposed in the three-Test series that ended in Indore on October 11 (the final Test ended in four days). On turning wickets, New Zealand's top batsmen failed to apply themselves as India won all three matches by handsome margins.
The script will change in the ODIs for sure. With conditions expected to be flatter, the Kiwis will back themselves on Indian wickets even though their record here is nothing great -- New Zealand have never won a bilateral ODI series in India, having lost all four previous such rubber.
India will start the series at No. 4 in the ICC ranking. The Kiwis are at No. 3. India need to beat New Zealand by a 4-1 margin to claim the third spot in the ICC ODI rankings.
There will be pressure on skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni to deliver. After Virat Kohli has raised India's performance bar considerably as a captain and player, Dhoni has to address his gameplan to ensure that he is the automatic choice as skipper for next year's ICC Champions Trophy.
Dhoni will lead a second-string team but there is enough wealth in his squad to take on the Kiwis, who have been bolstered by the return of Tim Southee and Corey Anderson.
