A scintillating half-century from Sagar Ali helped Srinagar ke Veer arrest a three-match losing streak, with the team handing an eight-wicket defeat to Tiigers of Kolkata after Chennai Singams dominated Falcon Risers Hyderabad by seven wickets in another one-sided Indian Street Premier League (ISPL) encounter at the Dadoji Kondadev Stadium here on Tuesday. In between the matches, Meet Bros delivered a power-packed performance, thrilling the crowd with their chart-topping hits.
Chasing a target of 65 runs, the Singams broke little sweat as they eased across the finishing line with 2.5 overs to spare.
Opener Ketan Mhatre laid the foundation of the successful chase, blowing away the Hyderabad bowling attack with a batting blitzkrieg which saw him plunder 35 runs off a mere 12 deliveries, smashing a couple of boundaries and four towering hits into the stands along the way.
After Mhatre's dismissal, fellow opener Jagannath Sarkar led the Chennai innings with 23 runs off 17 deliveries before Prashant Gharat brought up the victory in style with a boundary.Â
Earlier, electing to bowl first, Chennai saw their decision pay rich dividends almost instantly as Anurag Sarshar dismissed Prabjot Singh in the very first over.
With Liton Sarkar joining star opener Kisan Satpute at the crease, the duo started the daunting task of bringing the innings back on track and help Hyderabad recover from the disastrous start. They stitched together a partnership of 28 runs before Kisan misread the bounce of a delivery by Venkatachalapathi Vignesh only to see the lower edge crash into the stumps.
Sarkar emerged as the top scorer for the Falcons with 18 runs off 13 deliveries while Kisan got 10 off 12. Vishwajit Thakur (11) and Parveen Kumar (10) also played useful knocks lower down the order to take the Falcons to 64-9 in their 10 overs.
Mohammad Zeeshan was the most successful among the Chennai bowlers with figures of 3-13.
Srinagar beat Kolkata by 8 wickets
Batting first, Tiigers of Kolkata rode a brisk start from Sarfraz Khan and Bhavesh Pawar's late order fireworks to post a competitive 84/8. Sarfraz set the tone for the Kolkata side with a breezy 20-ball 27, laced with a four and two sixes before losing their way, thanks to Srinagar's disciplined bowling effort that caused much trouble to the batting side, until Bhavesh's arrival changed the complexion of the game. The big-hitting all-rounder took the attack back to the opposition with five mammoth sixes and a boundary, en-route to a 15-ball unbeaten 39 to propel his side to a sizeable total.
For Srinagar, Suvronil Roy was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 3/17 while Sahil Longale returned with 2/6.
In response, the in-form Sagar Ali singlehandedly led Srinagar's chase with a blistering half-century to guide his team home with 10 balls to spare. Opening the innings, Sagar took control of the proceedings and did not allow the Kolkata bowlers any chance of a comeback into the match. Sagar, who remained unbeaten on a 25-ball 51, powered by three sixes and five boundaries, set the tone of the chase in the company of his skipper Mangesh Vaity, who fell for 15. Towards the end, Sanskar Dhyani hit the winning runs with a massive six.
