London:
Jones county side Worcestershire on Thursday confirmed that the right-arm pacer has been ruled out for the rest of the season after scans revealed he needs more time to recover from the long-standing knee problem.
"Simon Jones will not play cricket this season. Our medical team have advised us that recent scans have revealed, despite the successful regeneration of cartilage in Simon's left knee, the underlying bone will require a longer period for complete recovery," Worcestershire said in a statement.
"During this time Simon will undertake further rehabilitation in his efforts to regain full fitness," it added.
To the pacer's disappointment, Jones' latest injury is seen as the end of his career, at least at Worcestershire.
"This is very disappointing news for both the club and for Simon himself. He has gone through so much work over the last year that we were all really hoping he would come through this," Worcestershire, director of cricket Steve Rhodes said.
"There will inevitably be speculation about Simon's future with the club but I must stress that no decision has been made at this stage."
