Indian bowlers could have bowled better on Day 2: Gavaskar to NDTV
Pragyan Ojha claimed two wickets but Sunil Gavaskar has told NDTV that Cook and Pietersen's partnership will need to be broken early on Sunday.
Former cricketer Sunil Gavaskar said on Satursday that he felt the Indian bowlers could have bowled better than they did against England on the second day of the Mumbai Test.
The visitors lost only two wickets in their first innings, both claimed by Pragyan Ojha. Gavaskar though said that the line bowled by the bowlers was not correct. "There is turn in the pitch. But the line bowled by the Indian bowlers was not right. Ashwin (for instance) bowled on the pads making it easy for the batsmen to pick him. Harbhajan can be excused since he is making his comeback but apart from the length which was fine, the bowlers were not able to do much right," he told NDTV.
Gavaskar was also not too impressed with the field placements and added that Alastair Cook and Kevin Pietersen were able to drive the spinners at will. He however said that he was impressed that the hosts managed to score 327. "India did a good job of reaching 327 after losing five wickets on 119," he said adding that it was now up to the bowlers to think about how they bowled and come back on Sunday, looking for quick wickets.
"This pair (Cook and Pietersen) needs to be dislodged early for Indian bowlers to face the inexperience English batting. (If it is not achieved) England can close in on India's total and even overhaul it."
