Stumps Bowlers Dominate Day 1!
So, its Stumps on Day 1 and South Africa are at 17/1 at end of the day. South Africa lost a their captain early but it was all about their bowlers on Day 1.
South Africa 17/1 (A Markram: 8; J Bumrah: 1/0) at stumps on Day 1 of 3rd Test, trail India (223) by 206 runs
Umesh to Markram, Boundary on the last ball. South Africa batters have looked in good touch against Umesh Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah so far. 10 runs on the board at the end of the fourth over but they know how to battle the Indian quickies.
Maharaj to Shardul, OUT!! caught by Petersen, First wicket for Maharaj in last five home Test matches. India are now seven wickets down with captain Kohli still going strong.
Thakur c Keegan Petersen b Maharaj 12(9) (4s-1 6s-1)
India have lost their sixth wicket as Marci Jansen has removed Ashwin this time. Kohli is the lone fighter so far for the visitors but how long he can stand alone?
Marco Jansen to Pant, OUT!! caught by Keegan Petersen!! Jansen has done the job again for South Africa. Pant has to go after a good start. India are five wickets down now.
Pant c Keegan Petersen b Marco Jansen 27(50) (4s-4)
Ngidi to Pant, FOUR!! Lucky boundary!! Pant has shown good temperament so far. He's batting on 19 and going quite well in the third Test. India have crossed the 150-mark and they are in the rebuild phase.
Its Tea on Day 1, Virat Kohli is still batting and he's joined by Pant in the middle. Pant is batting on 12. South Africa have picked two wickets in this session.
Rishabh Pant and Virat Kohli are looking solid. That has been the case for India this morning so far. Their batters have looked solid in their stay in the middle but have received one with their name on it. Credit must be give to Kohli, who has shown admirable patience to combat the South African pacers. This is an important phase in the game as a partnership here between Kohli and Pant can ensure India a good score but if South Africa manage to get another wicket then India's hopes of getting big one may well be over.
Virat Kohli has batted really well so far. He is on 25 and he's batting for the first time this year. Kohli hasn't scored a hundred for last two years and today the captain is looking in a very good form.
Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane have another game after their half-centuries in the second innings of the Johannesburg Test. Unfortunately Hanuma Vihari had to sit out despite terrific performance in the second innings.
Pujara is going for runs today and his individual score matters a lot for the team.
That's a lovely off-drive from Mayank! Excellent foot movement as he met the half-volley with a full face of the bat. Races away through the mid-off region. All about timing.
Mayank Agarwal survives. He gets off the mark but his heart would've been in his mouth. Goes at this full delivery with hard hands, this flew to the Petersen's right at full stretch.
