Mumbai:

The Bombay High Court on Wednesday adjourned the the hearing of Rajasthan Royals' petition against the decision of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to expel the team from the Indian Premier League (IPL) till October 29.

Co-owner of the Rajasthan franchise Shilpa Shetty has showed hope in the judicial process saying  that the process has begun and she hopes that "fairness prevails".

BCCI had terminated the agreement with the inaugural champions on October 10, saying it had changed the shareholding pattern without informing either the Board or the IPL governing council.

It has been learnt that the team told the Bombay High Court that the brand name Rajasthan Royals should not be interrupted and they be allowed to renew their players' contracts in order to protect their rights.

The court was further informed that the representatives of the the team had asked the BCCI to mediate in the matter but they did not get any response from the Board.


The Bombay High Court will today take up a petition filed by the Rajasthan Royals against the decision of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to expel the team from the Indian Premier League (IPL).

The BCCI had terminated the agreements of two franchises -- Rajasthan Royals and Kings XI Punjab -- for alleged irregularities in their ownership pattern.

The winner of inaugural IPL, Rajasthan Royals team is seen as close to the suspended IPL commissioner Lalit Modi, whose brother-in-law Suresh Chellaram has stake in the team.

Chellaram is facing government investigations for violations of foreign exchange rules, while the Enforcement Directorate has issued a 'Blue Alert' against Modi. (With PTI inputs)
