Heavy rains leave Motera stadium flooded

The first of the three Tests between India and New Zealand is scheduled at the Sardar Patel Cricket Stadium in Motera, Ahmedabad from November 4, but heavy rains lashing the city over the weekend have wrecked the stadium and its facilities.

The conditions could force the BCCI to re-think on having it as the venue for the Test and most importantly, for the ICC World Cup    

Baroda Cricket Association's pitch curator has offered his help to the officials after the incessant rains on Sunday had the recently refurbished stadium flooded.

Perhaps the GCA will not mind a little help from BCCI for it has to spend over 50 lakh rupees for reconstruction.

The 50,000-capacity stadium was submerged in seven feet water following the rains on Sunday. Conforming the news Gujarat Cricket Association secretary Rajesh Patel, said he had a talk with Vasu about the situation on the ground.

"It will take two days for the water to be drained out. We have laid the pitch new and have to see if it is in good condition. The Test is from 4th Nov so we have to prepare the ground," Rajesh Patel, GCA general secretary, said.

Apart from the pitch, the dressing room and gymnasium has also taken a hit.
