b James Anderson
43.4 OUT! TIMBER! Of course, it is James Anderson who gets the breakthrough. Good length delivery on off, coming back in sharply. Rohit Sharma puts a stride forward and looks to push it on the off side. He misses the ball completely. The ball skids on, goes through the gate and shatters the stumps. Rohit Sharma could hear the death rattle behind him. He walks back to the pavilion getting applause from the dressing room but he is disappointed. He did all the hard work and now has to depart. End of a fine knock from him. He will have to wait more for his first overseas hundred. 126/1

KL Rahul | 129 | 250 | 12 | 1 | 51.60 |
c Dominic Sibley b Ollie Robinson
90.2 OUT! Soft dismissal! Massive breakthrough for England very early in the morning. Ollie Robinson bowled a half-volley on the leg stump previously and follows it up with the same length delivery but outside off. KL Rahul is tempted into the cover drive but unfurls it aerially towards the cover fielder. This is one shot KL avoided the whole morning yesterday but sometimes having the runs under your belt make you confident or say overconfident in this case. There was no need to play this shot so early in the day. Dominic Sibley takes an easy catch and that ends a magnificent knock. 278/4

Cheteshwar Pujara | 9 | 23 | 1 | 0 | 39.13 |
c Jonny Bairstow b James Anderson
50 OUT! CAUGHT! It's James Anderson again with the breakthrough! Length ball, around off and Anderson has already put a seed of doubt in Pujara's mind with that huge inswinger on the previous delivery. Cheteshwar Pujara doesn't know if this one will nip in or move away and he makes the mistake of pushing at it. The ball takes the outside edge and goes to third slip where Jonny Bairstow takes a nice low catch. Cheteshwar Pujara's dry run at the crease continues. 150/2

Virat Kohli C | 42 | 103 | 3 | 0 | 40.77 |
c Joe Root b Ollie Robinson
84.4 OUT! TAKEN! Big big wicket for England! He gets out playing a shot outside off again. Kohli was back amongst the runs but has to depart now. He is disappointed as he walks back to the pavilion. This was on a good length outside off, swinging away from the batter. Virat Kohli could have and should have left it but instead decides to have a poke at it. He sends a flying edge to first slip. Joe Root moves to his right and grabs the catch. He makes no mistake. Ollie Robinson is pumped up, he knows the importance of this wicket. 267/3
|
|||||
Ajinkya Rahane | 1 | 23 | 0 | 0 | 4.34 |
c Joe Root b James Anderson
91.1 OUT! Rahane is out of here! His miserable form continues. Perfect line, perfect length, it's outside off and there is a little bit of away movement. Rahane is on the front foot, has a needless poke inside the line and edges it to first slip. Joe Root takes the catch easily and India have lost two quick wickets. When you are out of form, you tend to feel the ball and that brought Rahane's demise. 282/5
|
|||||
Rishabh Pant Wk | 37 | 58 | 5 | 0 | 63.79 |
c Jos Buttler b Mark Wood
110 OUT! CAUGHT BEHIND! Rishabh Pant falls and the 49-run stand is broken. Mark Wood finally has a wicket to show for his efforts. An 89 mph delivery, a touch short and wide outside off, Pant rocks back to slap it through the line but there is some extra bounce and it collects a thin outside edge on its way to the keeper. Jos Buttler pouches it safely and India lose their sixth wicket, third this morning. The replays, later on, show that the extra pace of Wood brought Pant's downfall. The Indian wicketkeeper-batsman was a shade late with his shot and it possibly took the toe end of his willow. 331/6
|
|||||
Ravindra Jadeja | 40 | 120 | 3 | 0 | 33.33 |
c James Anderson b Mark Wood
126.1 OUT! CAUGHT! Mark Wood comes into the attack and strikes in his first delivery to end the Indian innings. He gets his second wicket of the innings. Wood serves a shortish length ball, around off. Jadeja stays back and looks to heave it away but does not connect well. The ball takes the top edge of the blade and flies high in the air. The ball goes towards mid off. James Anderson settles under it and pouches it comfortably. India are all out for 364. 364/10

|||||
Mohammed Shami | 2 | 0 | 0 | 0 | |
c Rory Burns b Moeen Ali
110.5 OUT! Once again India lose two quick wickets this morning. Moeen flights this one up and lands it full around off, drifting in, Shami decides to flick it across the line but fails to keep his shot down. It's a simple catch for Rory Burns at short mid-wicket and England once again have found a way back. Can they pick the remaining wickets before Lunch? 336/7
|
|||||
Ishant Sharma | 8 | 29 | 1 | 0 | 27.58 |
lbw b James Anderson
124 OUT! Given lbw! Anderson dishes out a length ball outside off and gets it to swerve back in sharply, Ishant is caught on the back foot as he tries to defend. The ball though beats the bat and pings him on the pads. The appeal is made and the finger has gone up. Ishant wants to review it. No bat is involved, shows the Ultra Edge and Ball Tracker shows it to be hitting the stumps. Ishant is gone. A valuable little contribution from the tall man. India are 38 short of the 400-run mark. 362/8
|
|||||
Jasprit Bumrah | 6 | 0 | 0 | 0 | |
c Jos Buttler b James Anderson
126 OUT! CAUGHT BEHIND! James Anderson has yet another fifer in his illustrious Test career. Mind you, he was a doubtful starter for this Test match but turned up and he has turned up with full force. Serves an outswinger close to the off stump line, Jasprit Bumrah has no other option but to play the line. The ball lands, nips away a shade and kisses the outside edge. An easy take for Jos Buttler and India are now nine down. 364/9

41.2 OUT! Rory Burns is caught plumb in front! Shami speeds in from 'round the wicket and lands it on a length close to off. The ball lands and jags back in to beat the attempted flick shot from Burns. He is pinged on the pads, the appeal is made and the finger has gone up. Rory takes the DRS but to no use. Only an inside edge could have saved him. But the bat is absent. The Ball Tracker shows THREE REDS. Burns departs late in the day, one short of his fifty. England trail by 256 runs. 108/3

Dominic Sibley | 11 | 44 | 1 | 0 | 25 |
c KL Rahul b Mohammed Siraj
14.2 OUT! CAUGHT! A wicket immediately after Tea, a perfect start for India. Not again, Sibley would say. He has got out in a similar fashion in the last Test match as well. Siraj has not bowled a great delivery, he has just delivered a ball according to his field. On a good length and drifting down the leg side, Sibley clips it aerially to KL Rahul at short mid-wicket who makes no mistake. Mohammed Siraj is running in celebration, India have their first breakthrough. 23/1
|
|||||
Haseeb Hameed | 1 | 0 | 0 | 0 | |
b Mohammed Siraj
14.3 OUT! Two in two, Siraj is on fire! Not a happy return to the Test team for Haseeb. This ball didn't do a lot. Siraj lands it full and around off, it goes on with the angle, pretty straightforward to defend but Hameed is all over the place with his footwork. His front foot lands a little late, his bat is also late in coming down and the ball gets enough time and gap to sneak through to rattle the stumps. 23/2

c Virat Kohli b Mohammed Siraj
78.4 OUT! The ploy to bowl short has worked and India have a breakthrough. Bairstow will be very disappointed to walk into the trap. Mohammed Siraj switches to 'round the wicket and digs in a short ball around leg, Jonny turns to pull but the ball jumps a bit extra to kiss his gloves. The ball loops in the air and Virat Kohli walks ahead from first slip to accept a simple catch. The 121-run stand is broken and England trail by 135 runs. What a moment to lose a wicket with the second new ball just around the corner. India will be smelling blood now. 229/4

Jos Buttler Wk | 23 | 42 | 4 | 0 | 54.76 |
b Ishant Sharma
91 OUT! SOUND OF TIMBER! Ishant roars. Big wicket for India as yet another partnership was building. A good length delivery landing just outside off, Buttler tries to defend the line but it jags back in with the slope, beats the bat and hits the top of off stump. A dream wicket for any fast bowler. A scratchy stay for Jos Buttler is over. England trail by 81 runs. 283/5
|
|||||
Moeen Ali | 27 | 72 | 4 | 0 | 37.50 |
c Virat Kohli b Ishant Sharma
110.5 OUT! EDGED AND GONE! This was on the cards with so many deliveries beating the edge. Ishant gets lucky on this occasion. He keeps probing with a length ball close to off and gets it to hold its line. Moeen has a tame push inside the line and edges it to first slip. Virat Kohli goes down low to snap it inches above the ground. He claims the catch and Moeen is ready to walk. Hang on, the umpires want to get it checked. They go upstairs and gives the soft signal as out. The replays come and show that Kohli's fingers are underneath the ball. Moeen can continue with his walk. The 58-run stand is broken and England trail by 23 runs. 341/6

Sam Curran | 1 | 0 | 0 | 0 | |
c Rohit Sharma b Ishant Sharma
111 OUT! Two in two for Ishant Sharma and India are making a comeback in the evening session. A golden duck for Curran and Ishant is on a hat-trick. He will have to wait though for his next over. Sharma dishes out a perfect delivery, on a length and close to off, Curran has to play the trajectory but the ball straightens from there to take the outside edge. It flies to Rohit Sharma at second slip and he is not going to drop those. 341/7
|
|||||
Ollie Robinson | 6 | 22 | 1 | 0 | 27.27 |
lbw b Mohammed Siraj
117 OUT! It's clipping the leg stump, umpire's call and Robinson has to depart. Siraj has a wicket and at last, he has managed to convince umpire Michael Gough with his appeal. Fuller in length and on middle, pretty straightforward, Robinson fails to keep it out and is hit below the knee roll. The bowler turns in appeal and the finger goes up. Ollie decides to review but it's of no use. His stay in the middle is over. England still trail by 7 runs and Root is running out of partners. 357/8
|
|||||
Mark Wood | 5 | 23 | 0 | 0 | 21.73 |
run out (Ravindra Jadeja / Rishabh Pant)
124.3 OUT! RUN OUT! Fuller in length and around middle, Root flicks it through square leg and wants two. He, then, realizes that Jadeja is attacking the ball in the deep and decides to stop his partner. Wood though is ball-watching and doesn't realize. Root is quick to drag his bat inside the line at the bowler's end and Wood will have to depart as the throw has come to the striker's end and Pant has taken the bails off. Virat Kohli wants the umpires to check who got out but it's quite clear that Wood will have to go. The replays back the same. 371/9

|||||
James Anderson | 16 | 0 | 0 | 0 | |
b Mohammed Shami
128 OUT! BOWLED 'EM! A wicket off the final ball and England are all out for 391. Shami gets close to the stumps with his line, serves it on a good length at 81 mph and the angle takes it into the left-hander. Anderson is on the back foot to defend it but misses and finds his stumps shattered. With that wicket, it's STUMPS ON DAY 3! 391/10

c Jos Buttler b Mark Wood
9.2 OUT! EDGED AND TAKEN! Rahul is a goner! Mark Wood gets the wicket England wanted. KL has probably been India's best batter on this tour and he walks back even before the deficit has been erased. Lovely delivery, Wood steams in, goes wide of the crease, lands it on off and then gets it to shape away. Rahul looks to defend but does so inside the line, it kisses the edge and goes into the hands of Buttler. Wood is elated. He is really bowling well and deserved this wicket. 18/1

Rohit Sharma | 21 | 36 | 2 | 1 | 58.33 |
c Moeen Ali b Mark Wood
12 OUT! CAUGHT! Joe Root's decision of getting Mark Wood early into the attack is paying off really well. Wood serves a short ball and Sharma could not resist himself. This one is down the leg side, Rohit is probably a little early in the pull. It goes more of the toe-end towards deep square leg. Moeen runs in, slides forward and takes a good catch. Wood is on cloud 9, what a spell he is bowling. India in deep trouble now. Rohit is quite disappointed, he is looking at the bottom of his bat as he walks off. Now it is going to be a real test for the Indian middle order. They have not done that great so far and for once, the Indian openers have fallen cheaply in this series. 27/2

Cheteshwar Pujara | 45 | 206 | 4 | 0 | 21.84 |
c Joe Root b Mark Wood
72.4 OUT! TAKEN! England have finally broken the stand! The grit of Pujara comes to an end! A complete snorter was needed to get rid of him and Wood provides it. This is a back of a length ball on off, this takes off from nowhere. Pujara looks to fend it but the ball gets big on him, it goes off the top of the bat and lobs to the man at second slip where Root takes an easy catch. 155/4

|||||
Virat Kohli C | 20 | 31 | 4 | 0 | 64.51 |
c Jos Buttler b Sam Curran
23.1 OUT! EDGED AND TAKEN! Sam Curran brings out the Imran Tahir celebration as he runs around in joy! Why not? He has had a poor time so far in this Test, no wickets in the first innings, a duck that too a first ball duck with the bat but he has got the big fish, the Indian skipper who was looking solid, Virat Kohli. India are effectively 28 for 3. Once again Kohli did not need to play at that one. For the second time in this series he has fallen to a delivery which he could have easily left. It is on a length, it lands just outside off and angles away further. Maybe Kohli was worried about the ball coming back in or maybe he was just done in by the angle as Curran was constantly changing sides. Kohli has probably been sucked into the trap. He pushes at it, the ball goes off the outside edge and the keeper takes it. Kohli walks back shaking his head, he knows he has made a mistake. Still some time for Lunch, England would love another one. Also, this dismissal reminded me of how Sachin was dismissed 19 years ago to Pedro Collins. That same angle, the tall left-arm pacer, landed it around off and angled it away. Sachin poked at it, it found the edge and Jacobs did the rest. It was the third Test in 2002 between India and Windies in Bridgetown. India went onto lose that game by 10 wickets. They are in deep trouble here too. 55/3

Ajinkya Rahane | 61 | 146 | 5 | 0 | 41.78 |
c Jos Buttler b Moeen Ali
76 OUT! EDGED AND TAKEN! Rahane goes now and India in deep trouble! Moeen Ali gets his first! Rahane was beaten on a similar type of a delivery a few balls ago. Does not learn from the mistake. This is flatter and outside off, it goes on with the arm. Rahane looks to push at it, it goes off the outside edge and Buttler does the rest. Both the batters who were well-set fall in quick succession, India lead just by 140. 167/5
|
|||||
Rishabh Pant Wk | 22 | 46 | 1 | 0 | 47.82 |
c Jos Buttler b Ollie Robinson
85.3 OUT! GONE! An excellent line from Ollie Robinson and he has reaped rich dividends. The bowler is ecstatic as the danger has been averted. It's on a good length close to off and nipping away off the seam, Pant could have looked to play it a lot straight but his bat comes down at an angle as he pokes inside the line. The ball takes a healthy outside edge and Buttler makes no mistake to his left. India lead by 167 runs. 194/7

|||||
Ravindra Jadeja | 3 | 5 | 0 | 0 | 60 |
b Moeen Ali
79.1 OUT! TIMBER! That is a beauty! A perfect delivery by an off spinner to a left-hander. The last batting pair has been breached and now the hosts are into the bowling all-rounders! This lands on middle and then spins away. Jadeja goes back and tries to block but this turns enough to go past the outside edge and hits the off pole. 175/6

Ishant Sharma | 16 | 24 | 2 | 0 | 66.66 |
lbw b Ollie Robinson
89.3 OUT! Ishant is a sitting duck! A clever change in pace from Ollie Robinson. He lands it close to off on a length and gets it to move back into the batsman. Ishant is late in attempting to flick it away and is struck on the pads. The appeal is made and the umpire raises his finger. Ishant takes the DRS but it's of no use. Plumb. The lead for India is 182. 209/8
