Vikas Dixit, a 16-year-old Delhi schoolboy, achieved the unique feat of scalping all 10 wickets in the innings in a DDCA one-day league match on Thursday.
Dixit, who emulated international greats Anil Kumble and Jim Laker, recorded figures of 10 for 27 for Kashmere Gate Gymkhana against Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) en route his team's 222-run victory. KG Colts had amassed 309 for 7.
Playing at the Ashok Vihar ground, the offspinner's exploits started the downslide for DTC, from 67 for no loss to just 87 all out.
Apparently, the blue-eyed boy represented Delhi at the National Schools event but could not book a spot in the Delhi under-19 side this year.
Dixit is trained by Gautam Gambhir's coach Sanjay Bharadwaj.
Taking 10-wickets in an innings is indeed a rare feat with just two instances in international cricket - Kumble's 10 for 74 against Pakistan in 1999 at the Ferozshah Kotla and Laker's 10 for 53 for England against Australia in 1956.
In first class cricket though, two other Indians have achieved the feat - Debasish Mohanty, taking 10/46 for East Zone against South Zone in 2001 Duleep Trophy and Subhash Gupte picking up 10/56 for President's XI against Combined XI in Bombay in 1954-55.
