Marnus Labuschagne stays back and looks to pull it away, but for some reason, does not go fully through the shot and tries to keep it down at the last moment. He just ends up lobbing it straight to short mid-wicket, where Brydon Carse takes a dolly. Marnus is distraught and walks back for 19 off 40, and Australia are 94/3.  94/3

47.2 OUT! FLATLY SWEPT AND TAKEN! A wicket for England against the run of play and this is a self-inflicted one. Serves it on a fuller length, drifting in and around middle and off with some turn and bounce. Usman Khawaja premeditates the slog sweep, but mistimes it to deep mid-wicket. The ball dips in front of Josh Tongue but he dives forward and takes a fine catch. Jacks breaks the 91-run partnership. Usman Khawaja departs for 82 (126) and Australia are 185/5.  185/5

24.3 OUT! TAKEN! A fantastic catch, and Jofra Archer has two in the over now. This has been such an excellent start to the session for the tourists. Archer bowls this a bit fuller and around leg. Cameron Green looks to clip it away, but fails to keep it down as it seems to have held on the surface a bit. It flies flat and wide of short mid-wicket, where Brydon Carse puts in a full-length dive to his right and takes a stunning catch. Green goes back for a duck, and the Aussies have slipped from 94/2 to 94/4.  94/4

77.2 OUT! STRAIGHT AND GONE! England finally get Carey's wicket, through Jacks, with just a couple of more overs left for the new ball and about 20 minutes remaining in the day. Dropped fuller and just around the off pole with some spin and bounce. It is tossed up nicely at just 78 kph. Alex Carey gets down on a knee to slog it over mid-wicket, but only manages a thick top edge. The ball flies over the leg side. Jamie Smith calls for his catch, runs forward-right and takes a fine catch. Alex Carey departs after a quality knock of 106 (143). He lands this back of a length and on the fourth, the stump line, gets it to nip back in sharply from the seam with extra bounce. Josh Inglis stays back and tries to guide it to third man, but gets cramped up for room, and the ball goes off the toe-end to crash onto the stumps. A nice little knock of 32 off 39 from Inglis comes to an end, and the 59-run stand has been broken as well, with Australia 244/6 now.  244/6

Pat Cummins looks to work it to the leg side but plays it onto his pads before the ball lobs up, and Ollie Pope grabs it easily at short leg. There is a big appeal, and the finger goes up, but Cummins doesn't think he has nicked it and takes the review. However, Snicko comes up and shows a spike confirming that there is a slight inside edge and the Aussie skipper has to walk back to the hut. Mitchell Starc stays back to block it out, but plays down the wrong line. The ball goes through the huge gap between bat and pad to rattle the top of the middle pole. Not much of a celebration from Archer. Starc walks back after a fine fifty, and Australia are 348/9.  348/9

91.2 OUT! LBW! Jofra Archer gets a fifer, or does he? He has to wait as Nathan Lyon takes the review here. YES, he does. This is his third five-wicket haul against the Aussies. He goes just a bit fuller and on off, gets it to nip back in. Lyon tries to play with a straight bat again and from the crease, but the ball goes past the inside edge to hit him on the back pad. There is a big appeal for LBW, and the finger goes up. Snicko confirms no bat involved, and Ball Tracking shows two reds and wickets on umpire's call with the ball hitting the top of the middle stump. Australia have been bowled out for 371.  371/10

He angles in on off, on a good length, and that nips away a touch after landing on the seam. Zak Crawley is sucked onto the front foot and tries to defend, but only manages a feather behind to Alex Carey. A massive, confident appeal for caught behind, and the umpire obliges. Cummins delivers a money-ball in his fourth over. Trademark Cummins, who gets the ball to just bounce and zip off the deck. Zak Crawley departs on 9 (19), and England are 37/1, trailing by 334 runs.  37/1

10 OUT! OUTFOXED! A double strike from Lyon and problems multiply for the Englishmen. How is that for a return for him? You wonder what impact he was going to have in this game. First over, and he delivers two absolute beauties. He gets past the great Glenn McGrath and becomes the second-highest wicket-taker for Australia in Test cricket with 564 wickets under his belt now, just behind Shane Warne. A beautifully flighted delivery lands on the stumps, drifting into the middle stump line before gripping and spinning away after pitching. Duckett lunges forward in defense but the turn deceives him completely, sneaking past the outside edge. He's played the wrong line entirely and can only watch as the ball clips the top of off stump. Ben Duckett was looking really good out there and walks back on 29 (30). England slip further down to 42/3, trailing by 329 runs.  42/3

9.3 OUT! TAKEN! A soft, soft dismissal and Lyon makes an immediate impact in his very first over. He dishes out a fuller delivery, landing it around the off pole. It turns in with some extra bounce as Pope strides across to flick it with the spin. But his head falls over and that extra spin and bounce leads to the bat twisting at the point of contact. The ball flies flatly off the inner half of the bat, to the left of mid-wicket, where Josh Inglis takes a fine diving catch. Ollie Pope's agony continues in this Ashes, as he trudges back on 3 (10). 16.4 OUT! EDGED AND TAKEN! For the 12th time in red-ball cricket, Cummins extracts Root. He is bowling like a dream. A pearler of a delivery from the Aussie skipper as he bowls it much fuller and gets it to nip away from the seam. The line of attack is just outside the off pole and Root is drawn forward, trying to push it away, but only gets a big outside edge behind to the keeper. Carey dives a bit forward-right and gathers it safely. Joe Root has a long walk back to the dugout as he perishes on 19 (31). England in serious trouble now as they are 71/4. They trail exactly by 300 runs.  71/4

36.2 OUT! EDGED AND GONE! An inspired bowling change from skipper Pat Cummins, and Cameron Green strikes gold for the Aussies. He lands this back of a length and on middle and off, angles in but just straightens after hitting the deck. Harry Brook is squared up, trying to play at it, and just gets a feather behind, where Alex Carey makes no mistake. Brook stands there in disbelief but has to walk back after a fighting 45 off 63.  The 56-run stand has been broken now, and England are 127/5, still trailing by 244 runs.  127/5

84.1 OUT! BOWLED'EM! Who else? It is Mitchell Starc who gets the massive breakthrough for Australia and lets out a big roar. This is the 12th time he has got Ben Stokes in Test cricket, and the reaction from the English skipper says it all. Starc steams in from over the wicket, lands this on a good length and just on off, gets it to jag back in sharply and a long way. Stokes gets a bit stuck in his crease and tries to smash it away it, but plays completely down the wrong line. The ball zips through the gap between bat and pad to shatter the stumps behind. Stokes is hopping like a kid in disappointment as he knows how important this could be in the context of the Ashes. Stokes trudges off after scoring 83 off 198, and the big 106-run stand has been broken now. He is received with a huge applause from everybody present at Adelaide Oval. Jofra Archer runs towards him and gives a pat on his shoulder as Stokes drops off his helmet near the ropes and walks into the dressing room. England are 274/9, still trailing by 97 runs.  274/9

45.1 OUT! EDGED AND CAUGHT BEHIND! A huge, defining moment in the game as Cummins gets his third wicket. Cummins bangs it on a back of a length, and it nips in off the surface, around off. Jamie Smith swings with all his might to pull it across the line, but misses and the ball passes very close to the bottom edge on its way to the keeper. Actually, the ball didn't bounce much and skidded through the deck. It dips in front of Carey who snaffles it before the grass. A big, confident appeal for caught behind, but the umpire, Nitin Menon, says no. There is a review for a caught behind, and the Snicko shows a spike, despite there being a daylight gap between bat and the ball. Chris Gaffaney goes with the technology and considers that slight murmur as the contact off the bottom edge. And the catch is deemed clean by the third umpire. Oh, hang on. Jamie was ready to take a review, but the decision was already sent upstairs by the on-field umpires themselves. Another dismissal that will be talked about a lot. OUT loads on the giant screen. 54.1 OUT! BOWLED'EM! Scott Boland strikes again. Once he gets into rhythm, it is difficult to stop him. He lands this on a good length and on off, gets it to jag back in sharply. Brydon Carse gets stuck in the crease as Alex Carey is standing up to the stumps. He plays completely down the wrong line and leaves a big gap between bat and pad as the ball goes through and shatters the stumps. Tongue bangs this one hard into the pitch, on middle, gets some extra bounce. Travis Head tries to take it on and pull it away but the ball gets a bit big on him. It hits him high on the bat and flies high in the air towards deep square leg. Zak Crawley runs forward, but for a brief moment loses it in the sun. However, he settles himself and dives forward to take a fine catch. Head walks back for a magnificent 170 off 219. The Adelaide crowd gives him a big standing ovation. The 162-run stand has been broken now, and the Aussies lose half their side on 311. Head falls five runs short of his career-high.  311/5

1.3 OUT! LBW! Brydon Carse draws first blood, and this is exactly what England needed here. This is much fuller and on middle and leg, zips through the deck. Jake Weatherald gets stuck in his crease and tries to work it across the line. He misses it and gets hit on the pads. There is a massive appeal for LBW, and the finger goes up. Jake goes up to Travis Head to have a chat, but decides against the review and walks back to the hut. The only question here was whether it pitched in line or not. Woah! Ball Tracking shows it is pitched outside leg. Weatherald should have taken the review. A big judgmental error from the leftie. Head, at the non-striker's end, was a bit too far to judge that. Australia are 8/1, leading by 93 runs.  8/1

16.3 OUT! EDGED AND GONE! Josh Tongue gets his man this time. Second time lucky for him, and England get a much-needed breakthrough. This is on a hard length and in that channel outside off, gets it to shape away once again. Marnus Labuschagne is a bit unsure but has a tentative poke at it away from his body. It takes the outside edge and flies low to first slip, where Harry Brook dives forward to grab it sharply. He is claiming it, but Marnus stands his ground, and it has been sent upstairs. The replay clearly shows that Brook has his fingers underneath the ball. Labuschagne departs for 13 off 45, and Australia are 53/2, leading by 138 runs.  53/2

35.1 OUT! CAUGHT BEHIND! A wicket against the run of play, but England won't mind one bit. Will Jacks lands this short and well outside off, begging to be put away. Usman Khawaja rocks back and tries to cut it away, but the ball just bounces a bit extra and takes the outside edge, with Jamie Smith taking a sharp catch behind the stumps. Khawaja cannot believe it, as this was not a wicket-taking ball at all, but he has to walk back now for 40 off 51, and the 86-run stand has been broken. Cameron Green gets tempted and goes for the drive, but is a bit late to transfer his weight to the front foot. He ends up hitting it straight towards leg slip, where Harry Brook dives to his left to take a sharp catch. Superb planning and execution from the English skipper, and he deserved this wicket for the way he has bowled this morning. 79.5 OUT! EDGED AND GONE! This is a good fightback from England as Tongue gets to his 4-fer. Hits the deck hard, in and around off. Generates extra zip and bounce as the ball nips away from the batter. Inglis is flummoxed by that and hangs his bat away from the body to defensively dab it to the off side, but only manages a feather behind to Jamie Smith. Josh Inglis perishes on 10 (20) and Australia slip down from 311/4 to 335/7. With barely any footwork, Cummins goes fishing at it. He tries to carve that through cover, but gets a thick outside edge that flies flatly at head-height of the first slip. It lands, skids, and nips into the right hander. Nathan Lyon is pinned in the crease and tries to work it across, but plays all over it and gets beaten on the inside edge, getting rapped on the front pad. A big appeal for LBW, and up goes the finger. Nathan Lyon has reviewed it, but starts to walk off immediately after sending it upstairs, as he knows his fate. Nothing on Snicko and three reds on the Ball Tracking. A golden duck for Lyon. It lands and kicks up further, taking Boland by absolute surprise. In a defensive action, the Aussie number eleven tries to ride the bounce by hanging his bat in front of his face, but only manages to fend it towards the off side. Archer shows good awareness as he rushes forward on his follow-through and dives a bit to his left to take the return catch. AUSTRALIA HAVE BEEN BOWLED OUT ON 349!  349/10

53.3 OUT! STUMPED! Nathan Lyon has three now, and Australia are racing towards the urn now. Flighted, full and around off, hits the rough but does not spin and goes straight. Zak Crawley takes a couple of steps out of the crease as he gets drawn forward, but plays for the turn in. It just goes past the outside behind, where Alex Carey collects it sharply to his right and whips the bails off in a flash with Zak out by a fair bit. Lyon has produced three big hammer blows in this brief spell of his. But got to give credit to Carey for immaculate work behind the stumps. He has hardly stepped a foot wrong while keeping in this Ashes. Crawley has to depart for a gritty 85 off 151, and England are 194/6, still needing 241 runs to win.  194/6

1.2 OUT! EDGED AND TAKEN SAFELY! Brilliant comeback from Cummins. Proper Test match bowling. England's vulnerability against the new ball and their opening partnership struggles continue. The Aussie skipper cranks it up and lands it on a good length, wide outside off. It straightens just enough from the pitch and tempts the southpaw to poke at it. Duckett loosely hangs his bat away from his body with no footwork and gets a thick outside edge. It flies towards Marnus Labuschagne at second slip, who makes no mistake with a regulation grab. A nothing shot, really. Could have easily left alone. But that's what lack of confidence does to you. Ben Duckett goes for 4 (2) and England are 4/1, chasing 435 runs.  4/1

Dips low and left to the second slip. Marnus Labuschagne shows great flexibility as he dives and stretches out his left hand to scoop the ball one-handed. And he is off in celebration like a happy little kid, with his teammates joining him for that stunner. Ollie Pope departs for 17 (29) and England are 31/2, needing 404 runs.  31/2

29 OUT! EDGED AND GONE! The skipper strikes yet again and provides a massive breakthrough for Australia. For the 13th time in Test cricket, Cummins has dismissed Root. On a hard length, in the channel on off. Seams in and then nips away off the pitch. Root just cannot resist himself from poking at it and gets a thin outside edge behind to the keeper. Carey makes no mistake with a simple gather behind. Joe Root is livid with himself and punches the bat in frustration, letting out a huge grunt. The English premier batter departs for a well-constructed 39 (63). The 78-run partnership is broken and England are 109/3, needing 326 runs.  109/3

47.2 OUT! TIMBER! He's only gone and done it again! Nathan Lyon comes back in and strikes gold for the Aussies and Harry Brook is looking perplexed as to what happened here. Lyon slows this one up, pulls the length back by a couple of inches, and gets the ball to turn back in big from outside off. Brook goes for the big reverse slog but misses it by a mile, and the ball just catches the outside part of the leg stump. Brook departs for 30 (56), and Australia finally manage to break a stand that was growing in confidence with every passing delivery.  177/4

52 OUT! BOWLED'EM! Nathan Lyon does it again. Is that the Ashes for Australia? One can say they do have one hand on the urn. This is an absolute beauty from Lyon. He flights this up, full and on middle, gets it to grip and turn away sharply. Ben Stokes is drawn forward to a front foot defense but plays down the wrong line. It spins past the outside edge and rattles the top of off pole. Stokes just stands there in disappointment as he knows that the Ashes is slipping away from his side. Airs it off the toe end, does clear mid-wicket, but Cummins backtracks from the inner ring and takes it with ease through a reverse cup. Cool and calmly taken by the Aussie skipper. Pitched fuller and just around the off pole, with a bit of nibble away after kissing the deck. Will Jacks goes on the drive with hard hands, has a waft at it, only to nick it behind. Now, the ball is going flat and low, between the keeper and Marnus at first slip. Carey dives to his right, Marnus to his left, a bit ahead of the keeper and sticks out his left hand to take a stunner one-handed. Will Jacks is very disappointed with himself and walks back on 47 (137). England are 337/8, needing 98 runs to win. 2 wickets in hand.  337/8

Finds Jake Weatherald to perfection in the deep as the Aussie opener doesn't have to move an inch, just crouches low to his right to gather it. Archer is in disbelief.
