Asif wants to win Test for flood victims

Birmingham:

Fast bowler Mohammad Asif said on Wednesday that Pakistan wanted to win the second Test match against England for the victims of the devastating flooding in their home country.

"We disappointed in the last match and we need a fightback for them. They can see good cricket and they can forget," Asif told reporters at Edgbaston ahead of the match starting Friday.

He also revealed that Pakistan's players would wear black armbands to commemorate the roughly 1,500 people killed by the worst flooding in living memory in northwest and central parts of Pakistan.

Over three million people in total have been affected by the floods, which swept away villages and ruined farmland in some of the country's most impoverished and volatile districts.

Pakistan lost the first Test against England by 354 runs at Trent Bridge on Sunday.

Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari is due to speak at a rally of his Pakistan People's Party (PP) in Birmingham on Saturday, at the end of a visit to Britain, although it is not clear if he will go to the nearby cricket match.
