Amarnath gets Lifetime Achievement Award
India's 1983 World Cup hero Mohinder Amaranth was on Monday honoured with the C K Nayudu Lifetime Achievement Award for the year 2008-09 by the BCCI.

Amarnath will receive the award, which comprises a trophy and a cheque for Rs 15 lakhs, at the BCCI awards ceremony.
He scored 4,378 runs from 69 Test matches, in a career that stretched from 1969 to 1988. He also played 85 One-Day Internationals, in which he scored 1,924 runs.
He did extremely well in the later stages of the 1983 World Cup winning the man-of-the-match award in both the semi-final and the final.
A prolific batsman and a pace bowler, Amarnath made his Test debut against Bill Lawry's touring Australians in 1969-70.
He also led Delhi to Ranji Trophy triumph in 1981-82. Mohinder's father Lala Amarnath, who was independent India's first Test captain, was the first recipient of the award, instituted in 1994.
His 85 against the West Indies at Port of Spain in 1975-76 helped India achieve a world record target of 403 in Test cricket.
Two years later, he scored 90 and 100 at Perth, against an Australian attack that comprised dreaded Jeff Thomson.
He also had coaching stints with the Bangladesh and Morocco national sides, and the Rajasthan Ranji Trophy team. Legendary Indian cricketers like Polly Umnrigar, Gundapa Vishwanath, B. Chandrasekhar and EAS Prasanna have received this award in the past.
