Karachi:

After teammate Imran Farhat, young Pakistan batsman Umar Akmal has also vowed to sue Pakistani bookmaker Mazhar Majeed for claiming that he was on his payroll and was involved in spot-fixing.

"I am consulting my lawyers because I don't even know this fellow. He is neither my agent," Umar said on Thursday.

He said since he was a contracted player with the Pakistan Cricket Board he would obviously seek permission from PCB before sending any notice to Majeed.

In a new video leaked out by Geo News channel two days back, Majeed claimed that besides the suspended trio of Salman Butt, Mohammad Amir and Mohammad Asif, four other Pakistani players - Kamran Akmal, Umar Akmal, Wahab Riaz and Imran Farhat - who were involved in fixing matches along with him.

But Umar said he was shocked to hear these development.

"I have just started my international career and playing for Pakistan has been a big honour for me. I can't even think of being involved in such practices. I don't know why he has taken my name, he is a liar," Umar said.

He also made it clear that he wanted to take action against Majeed, who claimed to be the agent of many Pakistani players and was caught in a sting operation by the News of the World tabloid when Pakistan toured England last summer.

"I am not going to let anyone say anything about me or my teammates," he added.

Umar's statement came after Imran Farhat had on Wednesday, said that he would be sending a legal notice to Majeed, who is based in the United Kingdom.

Sources said that the PCB officials would be meeting their legal advisors on Friday to discuss the repercussion of the latest Majeed video, which implicated more players in the spot-fixing scandal.

"The report of the fact-finding committee on the Zulqarnain Haider issue would also be discussed at the meeting called by PCB Chairman Ijaz Butt," one source said.
