AB de Villiers, considered to be the best batsman of this era by most of his peers, will release his book AB: The Autobiography in November.
Pan Macmillan South Africa, the publishers, said the book will take readers through an enchanting journey from de Villiers' days as a child, his schooling in Afrikaanse Hoer Seunskool, time spent honing his batting skills in the backyard with his brothers to his rise and success as one of the most destructive batsmen ever to have played the game.
De Villiers, who has scored 7606 runs in Test cricket and 7941 runs in ODIs, holds the record for the fastest fifty, hundred and 150. Even Virat Kohli, his closest competitor in the modern era, feels de Villiers is in a league of his own.
"The reader will be transported to the backyard of AB's childhood home where he first learnt to play cricket with his brothers, and will be introduced to colourful characters and sportsmen along the way," the publishers said in a press release.
"The autobiography will also explore AB's interests in music and business and how he pursues these alongside his international cricket career."
De Villiers, captain of South Africa's ODI side, said he was eager to share the story of his life.
"For me, playing for South Africa through the past 11 seasons has been a fantastic privilege, from my debut against the West Indies right through to all the drama of the 2015 Cricket World Cup semi-final against New Zealand a few months ago, and I am looking forward to telling my story," he said.
The autobiography will be released in English and Afrikaans in South Africa while fans in the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand and India will be able to read the book in English.
