5th ODI: How Sri Lankan wickets fell

Sri Lanka, who have already booked a place in the tri-series final, decided to bat against India after winning the toss in the fifth ODI in Mirpur. Skipper Kumar Sangakkara's decision was welcomed by his Indian counterpart MS Dhoni who said during the toss that he would have anyway fielded first.

India made three changes with Sudeep Tyagi, Dinesh Karthik and Amit Mishra coming in place of Ashish Nehra, Virender Sehwag and Harbhajan Singh respectively. And as soon as Sri Lanka took the field, it became clear why India wanted to bowl first.

Indian bowlers made early inroads in the Lankan batting line-up and wreaked havoc. Here is how the Lankan wickets fell:

1st wicket: Upul Tharanga

Sudeep Tyagi, who opened the bowling, got his first wicket when Lankan opener Upul Tharanga edged an angling delivery to Dinesh Karthik in first slip. Tharanga went for a duck when he went for a drive without any footwork instead of leaving the delivery.

2nd wicket: Tillakaratne Dilshan

Zaheer Khan, who's not been among wickets in the series, got his first man when he removed in-form Dilshan for 33 runs. Dilshan, who came back into the side after missing last two matches due to a groin injury, was caught by Gautam Gambhir in slip while trying to gauge a boundry through the third man region.

3rd wicket: Mahela Jayawardene

Two overs later, Zaheer struck again and this time he got rid of Mahela Jayawardene for 5 runs. It was a well set trap and Mahela fell into it. Kohli was made to stand at short cover for a delivery that was not completely full but was enough to lure Mahela for a drive. Kohli took a sharp catch to send him back.

4th wicket: Thilan Samaraweera

Thilan Samaraweera, who had slammed a century in the last match, was caught plumb in front of the wicket. India fast bowler Sreesanth was right on the stumps. Samaraweera tried flicking it towards the leg side but was too late for the shot. He walked back without opening his account.

5th wicket: Thilan Kandamby

Thilan Kandamby was run out for 1 run. Zaheer bowled it short of a length on the body. Sangakkara played it toward Karthik at square leg and ran for a run and that compelled Kandamby to change sides. But then the Lankan thought otherwise and turned back. By that time Kandamby had nearly reached him. Karthik threw the ball on the bounce to Zaheer who collected it and dislodged the bails.

6th wicket: Thissara Perera

Thissara Perera, who's known for his pinch-hitting technique, was done in by the Indian leg-spinner Amit Mishra. Mishra tossed it up and Perera went for it aimlessly. The ball went up in the air and Yuvraj Singh ran a distance on the boundary to take a good catch at deep midwicket. Perera added 11 runs to the Sri Lankan scoreboard.

7th wicket: Kumar Sangakkara

The Lankan skipper was the only one who fought but perished to a bad ball from Yuvraj Singh for 68 runs. The Sri Lankan scoreboard read 143 when Sangakkara went for a pull shot against a short delivery from Yuvraj. But he failed to time it well and the ball took the top edge of his bat before Raina caught it at midwicket.

8th wicket: Thilan Thushara

After Sangakkara's dismissal, Thilan Thushara (28) and Suraj Randiv combined to consolidate the innings. They added 59 runs when Thushara threw his bat to a short ball that was going outside off-stump. The bat took the top edge that and Yuvraj ran across from backward point to complete the catch.

9th wicket: Suraj Randiv

The Sri Lankan spinner Suraj Randiv slammed his maiden ODI fifty. He had made 56 runs when a googly from Amit Mishra deceived him and the ball skid through his bat to strike the leg-stump.

10th wicket: Chanaka Welegedara

Last man Chanaka Welegedara played just four balls making 1 run when he swung his bat against a short and slow ball from Mishra, and missed it completely. The ball was collected by wicketkeeper MS Dhoni who dislodged the bails as Welegedara was miles out of his crease.
