Dismal day for India at All England Badminton Championship
HS Prannoy and Ajay Jayaram lost in the men's singles first round of the All England Championship. Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponappa lost in the women's doubles

Indian shuttlers had a bad day in office as Ajay Jayaram and HS prannoy failed to cross the opening hurdle at the prestigious All England Championship here on Wednesday. (Read more badminton stories here)
World No. 21 Ajay Jayaram's fight ended with a narrow 18-21, 21-19, 19-21 loss to Hong Kong's NG Ka Long Angus, world no. 16 in men's singles event.
In another match, HS Prannoy played his heart out before going down 20-22, 15-21 to Xue Song of China.
Things were no different in doubles events. 2010 Commonwealth Games champions Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnappa suffered a 24-26, 17-21 loss to Samantha Barning and Iris Tabeling of The Netherlands in the opening round of the women's doubles event.
In men's doubles, Manu Attri and B Sumeeth Reddy too went down fighting 21-16 13-21 15-21 against Malaysian combo of Kien Keat Koo and Boon Heong Tan.
