The Asia Cup 2018 cricket tournament will bring arch-rivals India and Pakistan facing off against one another in the Asian continental battle for supremacy. While the tournament has six continental teams in action – namely Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Hong Kong, India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka – in the fray, the focus as always is on the India-Pakistan contest. India have won the Asia Cup on six occasions and are the defending champions. The tournament is played alternately in the 50 and 20-over format and the Asia Cup 2018 will follow the 50-over format. India will be captained by Rohit Sharma as regular skipper Virat Kohli is being rested, in view of India’s heavy cricket calendar. The Asia Cup 2018 also sees MS Dhoni return to action, while key bowlers like Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal are also in the squad. Pakistan, led by wicketkeeper Sarfraz Ahmed, are possibly the best team on form presently and they will try to improve on their surprisingly modest record in the tournament. Afghanistan have also been in fine nick in the recent past and they are always an exciting team to follow. Afghanistan are quite capable of beating some of the sides in the fray. Bangladesh would like to reinvigorate their image as a good limited-overs side, since they have largely been underachieving in the recent past. Sri Lanka are going through some sort of a transition and currently look like the weakest side in the contest barring Hong Kong, which is made up of part-time players.
